Clarke has a decent rep as a coach/assistant. Didn't last long as manager at West Brom or Reading. It's a bit of a weird one as there is obviously a lot of pressure on him to play Scotland based players and he leaves out far superior players like Fleck, Cairney, Ritchie etc

Four of the starting 11 play in Scotland and one of the subs does. Every other player on the field last night plys their trade in the EPL or Championship.

Cairney is rubbish. Ritchie is a winger which Scotland don't use and even then, he isn't as good as Ryan Fraser. Fleck makes the squad but as much as I love him, he isn't as good as John McGinn at Villa so won't displace him.

McBurnie did McBurnie last night. Made good runs and created space but couldn't latch onto anything.

So he only had 6 chances last season? Watch him, he's never ever set in the box, he's still and easy to mark and is way too casual. For me he's more intersted in going on the lash with Swansea fans than playing his heart out for the Blades.

That is wrong on so many levels.

Please show me a striker at any point, and in any league, in history that has scored 100% of their chances. I'm quite sure i'll be waiting a while!

Also no player worked themselves into the ground more than McBurnie from Christmas onwards. If you don't believe me then go back and watch the matches back.

I'm not saying he's the answer and the best striker ever but to call him too casual is, quite frankly, insulting and shows a total lack of understanding of what certain players bring to the team.

Thing is we focus on McBurnie because he plays for us. However, the while team are getting a battering as we we aren’t very good. Certainly, a painful watch. So if, like me, you stay off the Scotland message boards/forums because of the bile that is posted from supporters of the ugly sisters. You’ll see Oli is treat the same as the rest. For example the BBC’s poll from Thursday’s game he’s second; albeit with a bang average score, and better than Shankland who plays for Dundee Utd. It’s not an English thing, the team is just playing crap!

Switched over from Norway v Northern Ireland to Scotland v Czech Republic as soon as I found out that McBurnie had come on. Did well and hit a terrific shot from outside the box that hit the bar. Helped out the defence with heading clearances when defending against set pieces. Looks to be returning to full fitness.

I kind of expect most of that stuff from McBurnie (minus the long range effort which I've never seen him do for us).

But is effort & defensive shifts enough for us at PL level? We need presence, movement, link up, mobility, goalscoring... I really like McBurnie & I don't think £20m has been a major rip off, but I don't think he offers us enough consistently.

For me, he has a cracking game 1 in every 5. The rest of the time he looks a bit languid, a bit weak & rarely looks like making, or creating a goal. People bemoan the lack of service he gets - fair enough, but he's responsible for helping us get up the pitch, he needs to be getting on the end of half chances, crosses, he needs to be more accountable for the teams performance when he's playing.

hasn’t been since we came back, lockdown must have been a bit of cross trainer than all day chilling with his kids.

He needs a proper full on, 6 weeks hard fitness work followed by 3 months of games to get close to where he was.

McBurnie did ok last night. As a jock who likes the Blades, it is gutting watching him hit the bar twice in as many games, especially considering his ever dwindling popularity with the tartan army.

For context though, one of the most recent call ups, QPR striker Dykes, has scored 2 and got an assist in his first 5 Scotland games. Oli is on his 10th cap now with very little to show for it. I know this matters very little to most on here, but it might make the opinions of my fellow countrymen make more sense.

For context though, one of the most recent call ups, QPR striker Dykes, has scored 2 and got an assist in his first 5 Scotland games. Oli is on his 10th cap now with very little to show for it. I know this matters very little to most on here, but it might make the opinions of my fellow countrymen make more sense.

Maybe we should try and sign Dykes, you can never have too many Aussies in a sports team?!

Connor wasn't very good at that at Hearts. They hoofed their way right into the Scottish Championship last season and they released him.

Agreed. But we play different when Dykes is on the pitch; the criticism he gets is a little unfair. See below, I agree wholeheartedly.
