Mcburnie

I'm an old bugger when it comes to spelling :)

Don't let anyone tell you that you aren't quaint and archaic, old boy!

Strikes me that we have the 3rd most crosses and the 4th most corners. McBurnie wins an amazing number of headers to clear the ball in defensive situations. He also wins loads of aerial duels around the pitch ( stats in O.P.). He scored one great goal from a cross and showed at Swansea he knows how to glide the ball into the net with skillful headers. We also have Egan and O'Connell competing for corner crosses

We need to join the dots when attacking. What can we improve?

I do find some of McBurnie's social media shows of wealth a bit vulgar & not in keeping with the rest of our squad, but I guess this goes hand-in-hand with going up the divisions and attracting players who are on higher wages. It's just not what I would expect to see from a lanky, ginger lad from Leeds. I thought we were getting someone with more of a working class, down to earth, grafter mentality a la Basham.

Anyway, if he starts delivering on the pitch I don't think anybody will be concentrating on his private life. The point is, he isn't quite doing enough in games. He's getting shoved around by defenders, he isn't linking the play & this incessant moaning at referees has to stop.

However, I have seen enough of him to think, particularly at his age, there's a lot more to come. For now though, I'd probably have McGoldrick, Mousset & Sharp ahead of him.

I think you're right that he needs to make more of an impact on the game. I thought he was a handful against Liverpool tbf - but he just needs to show a bit more quality when he gets chances. Like you, I just wish he'd stop arguing all the time with the ref. There's only going to be one winner in that situation. I couldn't care less what he does in private tbh, so long as he keeps in mind that whatever he does do will be scrutinised and reflect on our club.

I like your last sentence btw..."I have seen enough of him to think, particularly at his age, there's a lot more to come". That's very cleverly worded, because you're actually saying that even though you've seen enough of him, you aren't convinced, but are hopeful. I think that sums up my feelings as well.

I was thinking he needs to do a lot less Morgs.

Nobody ever saw Edwards all over the pitch, winning clearance headers and totting up clearances like McBurnie does. The lad does that in abundance and then is left isolated upfield to chase hopeful through balls ( which we rank highly on, quantity if not quaity).

There's no denying we have way over average numbers of crosses and corners going in there but I only recall McBurnie getting two clear headers, hough he has been unlucky a couple of times when goalbound headers have hit the back of a defender's head.

I cannot get my head round!! why the lad wins all those headers defensively and all over the pitch and yet has only scored one headed goal.

Is it him or could it be the quality of the crosses?

Of all our 7 goals only two have been converted from crosses and they were own goals!!!!

You kinda answered your own question.

He does too much, as does Sharp when he plays. The reasoning is because the striker gets pulled out to the wing with the full back/centre half etc, playing their tippy tappy until someone puts the ball in.

The problem is the intended targets are usually beside them on the wing.

I wasn't thinking that actually but it is a version of what may be going wrong.

Personally I do see McBurnie out wide a lot in early attacks but I think he gets in position for crosses - usually outnumbered substantially by the time the ball is played across, generally hopeful crosses rather than pinpointed. Robinson is around but rarely do we get anybody else whatsoever up there in the box to distract defenders, with nobody around to pick up the second ball. Quality of crosses and no quick early ones like you say Scooter_mcgavin. Similarly Sharp always gets in there but rarely wins a header, not that it's one of his main attributes as much as it is with McBurnie; picking up second balls is Sharp's strength though.

As for corners, I've no idea. Fleck and Norwood deliver good corners but it never works. Referees don't protect strikers but that's the same for everybody. Find ways to play in a delayed cross maybe, by which time defenders will have stopped wrestling our players.

One point that's dawned on me is the low number of headed goals in the P.L. - 27 out of 231. That's a low number by any measure and particularly when you think that when United are attacking the wide move with the cross into the box is the main ploy.

Anyone offended by one of our players wearing a top with the logo of a clothing brand of a global superstar is a fucking spaz. And I mean that. I absolutely expected it from the Blades Facebook groups though. I lose a few brain cells whenever I try to decipher what the gormy cunts on there are saying when they attempt to speak English.

Not very nice that is it.

Bang on. Earns his money, if he wants to show off and spend it he’s more than entitled to do so. Ollie Norwood put a post on of his new chrome R8 the other week didn’t see anyone moaning about that?

Don't even know what he's supposed to have posted that's flaunting his wealth. Went to America, been in New York, saw a basketball game with good seats. I know people that have done the same who earn probably half what he earns a week in a year.

Same with the clothes, nothing you don't see around town.

The one thing where I thought "he's got some money" is a private plane but again, it's not actually that bad in terms of being cost effective to charter a plane if you've got a few mates with you depending on the plane type and distance.

Got some right moaners on here lately when it comes to our players. Ravel is getting psychoanalysed after every tweet, McBurnie buys a jumper and what, we should expect him to post his receipts on here so we know he's not being flash?

Maybe they would be happiest if new players had an appointment with a branding iron on signing, had all their clothes confiscated and replaced with team gear, and got put in a boarding house on Shoreham Street with £30 a week to spend at Aldi.

As you say, no comment on Norwood's R8 outside his 6 or 7 bedroom mansion with gravel driveway bigger than a public park.

Deep down maybe they don't want us to improve, quite happy to fail as long as the old lads are doing the failing, God forbid we try and grow by bringing better players in on higher wages - should have kept Ched and Lavery for a few grand a week.

Mcburnie went to the dingles match today can’t believe a player would show so much disrespect than go to a local rivals match

Hope mcburnie is dropped and immediately transfer listed

Going to see a football game on a Saturday when United aren’t playing?

Nay; Going to see 2 of his ex teams playing in a local ground in his own free time when United aren’t playing, training, or travelling?

Hang the cunt at half time on Monday night. Fucking despicable.
