Player Suggestion McBurnie on loan

His goalscoring record for us in the Championship is not above average. Quite rich accusing me of not being fair when I am basing my opinion on his statistics for us at that level, whilst also taking into account that he's now two years older than his last spell in the Championship, after a fairly poor year in Spain.

For the record, I like him as a person and have nothing against him whatsoever. I'm not allowing my feelings to dictate the reality, however.
He's got a Championship scoring average the last season he was with us of slightly better than 1:3 goals to games.
His total career Championship average is also slight better than 1:3.
That's not below average.

I don't think Wilder would use him this way... but the best football of his career was playing as an inside-left for Barnsley, as Hamer does for us.

We already all agree we have no pace in the squad as it is, could u imagine selling hamer and replacing the LW position with mcburnie? Fml 🙈.

We'd also have the lowest counter attack of all time with mcburnie and Moore breaking forward.

Just as women release a hormone to forget the pain of childbirth, some blades forget the pain of McBurnie's 43 game goal drought

Don't get the annoyance at re-signing McBurnie. He's an upgrade on Moore. If McBurnie starts Vs Sunderland does anyone think we don't win that game with the chances Moore had? Could be a very good link up option with Tyrese.

He's not a stand out signing of the window, but he's an improvement on what we have.

When the question of whether or not to renew McBurnie's contract came up at the end of last season, I think most people's opinion was that they were happy with his performance level but were reluctant to offer a new deal due to his poor fitness record. The fact that he's spent the whole season available suggests he might have turned a corner, and could be a good investment.

Whether or not you like his antics/personality, his recent numbers in the Championship were excellent.
Until he comes back here with our terrible strength and conditioning team and methods

Completely understand the concern over fitness and games missed but I honestly think some were looking the other way when he played for us.

He's undoubtedly a top end Champ striker as his record confirms. He also competed better in the PL than most did.

I also think he could be the foil for Cannon potentially too.

I'm all for young up and coming and improving our recruitment, but you need a mix.

There's a difference between average ans actual. Anyone can manipulate numbers to suit their story.

He scored 9 in 17 games averaging 1 every 2 games. After that he only scored 4 in the remaining 21 games averaging 1 goal every 5 games.

The latter sums up his scoring record at Sheffield United.

He may average 1 goal every 3 games but the fact is that he didn't score a goal every 3 games. Far from it expect for one half season out of 5.

Of the things Oli Mac was actually quite good at, playing a first time ball into another one of our players (rather than a killer through ball for the opposition) was probably one of his stronger attributes.

I’m all for it should the deal be right for us.

Do the club do this (to this extent) for many other former players?

I genuinely don’t know the answer, it just seems odd
The odd few like Billy Sharp or Michael Brown I recall but certainly don't remember 3 posts in a day.

Could of course be nothing seems a little over the top though!

Tom Canon also slightly bettered 1:3 last season and is far younger than McBurnie. He’s not very well liked.

Tyrese Campbell scored 1 in every 159 minutes.

Do we spend money on someone who’s at best on a par with what we have (based on a record from years ago) at the wrong side of their 20s, with a poor fitness record?

Or, pick someone up who’s younger, with a greater sell on potential/room for even more growth as a player?

If you can keep him fit, he's an asset at this level.
But nobody has succeeded in keeping him fit.
He’s been fit the last year.

Moore, McBurnie, Cannon, Campbell and Brewster/One and you’ve one department not to worry about.

Get Dunne and Mepham and that’s two.

The midfield is already very good.

Just need to decide on a system and perhaps add a winger or two.

Keep it simple.

I have mixed views on this, if true.

On a positive note, I think he was better than many give him credit for and would do a decent job for us. If it’s at a low/no cost and on low wages, he’s a good squad filler and gives us another option from the bench. It also appears that he’s settled down, so hopefully isn’t getting into off field issues anymore.

That being said, it concerns me that we’re again talking about former players. Also, I know it’s early days, but I hope this isn’t the pond we are fishing in. If Wilder is staying, someone else needs to be taking on player recruitment.

What about when Hamer, Souza leave?

Sorry but that's one Campbell injury away from a disaster
