Whilst I get that it's not the entire picture.

For me he's a good, or actually pretty good championship forward who isn't quite up to the PL standard.
When he joined initially he did "OK" but it was clear his fitness needed improvement. Into his 2nd season and during covid he seemed to lose his head/attitude and discipline which resulted in a lack of goals and injury/fitness issues.

That first season back down was a lesson for him. Until Hecky came in and gave him a bit of boot up the arse he was struggling massively. He then started to improve but the goals didn't come till the promotion season. But when they did he also became a key cog of our promotion push. Assists came too.
In the PL 23/24 season he wasn't exactly electric but he offered something as a forward. 6 goals in 21 isn't bad for a striker who finished bottom of the PL.
That would equate to possibly 10-11 goals if he played in 38 games.... "possibly" being a big word there though.

With what I've just described above these stats perhaps tell the picture for me.
I'm not defending him, I also dont' think we will sign him but I think in this division he can offer quite alot as a forward.

I did actually like him as a player, as I said his attitude couldn't be faulted, and he could play some good football. But I really don't think that re-signing him would do us any favours: as you say, decent enough in Championship but he can't cut it at the top level. Good luck to him wherever he ends up (as long as it's not the Huns).

We should be all over McBurnie on a free. Whatever else about him, he returned well at this level when fit.
Links the play, decent in the air, and does have some (but not loads of) goals in him.

The Bladey stuff does help a bit too.
