Mayor Of Sheffield Tweet

Anyone who attempts to use political office (elected or not) to better the lives of others is right with me.

The historical tropes of stuffy politicians who struggle to connect with the majority of their demographic should be challenged, often.

If being positive, raising the profile of Sheffield and making people is an embarrassment, then there is something odd in the world.

Good on him & more power to his elbow. I can't see why anyone would be surprised that a member of the BAME community in Sheffield and it's environs would support us over the other shower of shit. Rather be a what, than a Blade? F**k off & take your shit songs with you.
Never a truer word said. Why would someone from an ethnic minority choose to support a club with such bigoted supporters as that lot. Would be very welcoming to attend a match and hear that being sung.

Don’t forget though, it’s supposed to be us Blades who are the ones without any class!

I thought he was an embarassing wanker, now he's slightly less embarassing but just as much a wanker.

Keith Curle......???

Fair play to Magid but he’s done SWFC tweets as well. Suspect he’ll prefer us to the mouth breathers at S6 if he’s a Sharrow lad.

Might be because he's the mayor of Sheff, not Barnsley!?

He isn't 'our mayor', its an unelected position given to him by the Green Party that wields no power. The guy is a total and utter embarrassment to the city and he most certainly doesn't speak for me, Blade or not.
He’s an elected Green councillor. The agreement between the parties is that, given its ceremonial role as representing the city, they take it in turns to nominate a councillor as mayor. If enough voters decided they want one, Sheffield could have a directly elected mayor like Bristol (also a Green incidentally) or Liverpool or Manchester, but personally I think they are better off with Majid who, as a number of people here have pointed out, is a great guy, a breath of fresh air, and a Blade.

I met him as part of the Cliffhanger Weekend at the beginning of the month. Top guy, took the time to come and speak with all trade store workers and posed for pictures with anyone who would ask despite officials trying to move him along.

As for being a Blade, when he asked if I lived in Sheffield and I said ‘not anymore’ he asked which half of the city I support and was beaming when I said the red and white side.

Top guy using a platform to try and make positive change.

Dan Jarvis is the elected Mayor for the Sheffield City Region, Magid is the non elected Lord Mayor.

He is bloody brilliant.

He is enthusiastic about the city, he is forward thinking, he is out and about in the city mixing with different communities and people bringing happiness and positivity. He is well spoken, well educated and as far away from the stuffy dinosaur image of local councillors as you can imagine.

Above all else, he is a really nice bloke.

Do not understand how or why people would be ashamed or embarrassed by him - and still yet to hear a decent argument from those that are.

Magid. You can do magic!

He was an elected councillor in Broomhill & Sharrowvale before and a very good one at that.

It’s a pity people are less vociferous that we have an unelected head of state at the helm.

We have got a directly elected mayor.
Unfortunately we've got a directly elected mayor who doesn't believe in the city and who thinks we have to be part of One Yorkshire/Greater Leeds.
At least Magid has some actual passion and belief in Sheffield and recognises what the city has given him.

I'm not fully convinced by our Magid as I do believe the position of Lord Mayor should be ceremonial and low profile, but he has certainly given the position a good shake. If he can promote Sheffield (and not himself) then I am all for it as Sheffield always seems to be the bridesmaid and never the bride.

Dan Jarvis as Mayor for the Sheffield City Region will be a disaster as his eyes are on a bigger prize just up the M1. He hasn't got the Sheffield Region at heart as he is MP for Barnsley and has openly supported the One Yorkshire vision which will be a huge disadvantage to Sheffield.

I didn't vote in the last mayoral election as I was not impressed by any of the candidates, including the Labour Party candidate where my political leanings naturally lie.

Magid really needs to be the Mayor of Sheffield and not the Lord Mayor. I don't know how long the position of the elected Mayor lasts, but Magid will certainly be on my radar if he decides to stands next time.

Would much rather have him there than the cerebrally-challanged cuntflannels that perch near me.

Have a like for broadening my lexicon of naughty words.

I am a little unsure whether the 'flannels' bit refers to what posh peope call trousers, the smelly thing in the batchroom that your wife tells you off for using to wash your arse, or people who talk a lot.

I might regret this, but please enlighten us further.
