i really rate macdonald.. he makes me chuckle. in the second half he does a body dummy that sent the entire defence one pace the wrong way.. brilliant .. funny thing is that he doesn't like shooting does he?.. i'd love to see him score a goal. i think it would do wonders.. for a bloke that can pass so superbly he doesn't like to shoot .. i think it is in his head.. just pretend you are passing to the corner of the goal kev. there you go..

Agree completely, whilst 4-0 is a cracking result (considering I don't think we got out of second gear), with 14 shots on target we should've had 6/7. Similarly against (non-league) Salisbury we had 16 on target according to BBC Sport yet only put 3 away.

By no means a criticism just a pointer that against better teams we must be more clinical.

Remember though that you on average need to create 3-4 chances to score a goal - chances, not shots on goal. When teams do score 7 goals they are usually abnormally effective, rather than having produced 21-28 chances (extremely rare).

Last night's goals were brilliant with some good play, but none of them were tap ins and the scorer had to execute very good finishes to score.

Thought Quinn and Macdonald were the two worst players tonight..

Serious question. Are you insane?

Not taking the piss at all. Macdonald had a poor game tonight, lacked control and looked lazy, got over-run in midfield especially first half (check how many good chances they had) and Quinny has only got one foot, scandalous for a professional footballer

So that's a yes then.

:D

And I respect that fella, really. But if you weren't at all impressed with McDonald last night then you need spectacles, rose coloured or not.

Do you apply the same principle to players? Do they have to perform well for two full seasons before they get any vocal appreciation?
He deserves a chant or two for what he's achieved so far. Other managers like Speedo and Adams had their names chanted despite poor results.

The manager isn't kicking the ball about. Vocal support may give a tired player a lift in the last few minutes, so I'd always support the players vocally, even if they were utter garbage. Then I'd knock them on here.

The manager should be judged over a full season (and beyond). What is the use in getting us to play "football" if we don't go up? Once we're up, then he's proven himself. But this particular manager has a track record of being a one-season wonder, so to truly prove himself, he'll need to keep us up.

Obviously that's all a little black and white. If he missed out narrowly on automatic and then we lost in a play-off final, I wouldn't judge him as harshly as if we finish 12th.

Spot on. Im not McDonalds biggest fan but he was fantastic last night. If only he could shoot... Mind you he wouldnt be a blade then

The odd thing is...he can.

He was a goalscorer at Dundee and would have done just as well at Falkirk had he ever played for them and first came to notice at Burnley with two against the Arse that Vieira or Toure would be proud of. It'll come.

It was Flynn that played for Falkirk. McDonald started out with Dundee.

I can help you with United managers' first games in my lifetime:

Rowley W
Harris W
Furphy D
Sirrell L
Haslam L
Peters L
Porterfield D
McEwan L
Bassett L
Kendall D
Spackman W
Thompson L
Bruce W
Heath L
Warnock W
Robson D
Blackwell D
Speed L
Adams L
Wilson W

P20 W6 D5 L9 - which rather supports your thesis.

Interesting that with the notable exception of Bassett how often the first game was an indication of how successful a manager they were going to be.

Me and you need to sit at the next match together and compare notes!!!, Iam obviously seeing something different to you. Perhaps iam being too critical, but then again I do expect 100% from every player every game no excuses. If they do have an off day, fair enough, but surely I should be able to air my personal views without getting slagged off. Only joking, gotta dash, Ive got an appointment at Specsavers!!!

I can't believe simonsen hasn't got a say he made some good saves and his form has been good the last 2 months

Cresswell MOM IMO. Great effort and desire plus a very good goal. Great team man.
