Nobody has mentioned it yet and I think he is deserving of a little praise; Yesterday he was our most consistent player in my opinion. I thought he was dealt with harshly by Weir when he dropped him for a 'mistake' (should've cleared the ball before getting fouled) against Preston which would've done his confidence no good at all, but yesterday you could see he is playing for a Manager that has put faith in him again by offering a presence going forward but also doing his defensive duty just as effectively. It's obvious he is limited as a player but during difficult times when you need your players to get the basics right he did that yesterday.

On the flipside of that, I was disappointed with McMahon. When their LB was sent off there was plenty of space in his territory yet he was still caught ball watching and losing his man with their goal being a good example.

I agree completely about Hill. He has been asked to provide width to the team and get forward. This is not his natural role but he does genuinely try and do that. I think he gets a lot of undue flak and is dependable usually across all 4 defensive positions. Underrated player is Hill.

He's got a good attitude and is probably the best marker of our back four. Underrated for me. A solid 6.5 / 7 out of 10 when played as an orthodox full back.

Easily my favourite player: can fill in anywhere across the defence, interacts with fans, passionate, and keeps a lot of wingers in his back pocket. Like others have said he clearly isn't a natural going forward but he makes a conscious effort to, it'd help if Brandy didn't drift in so much so he could pass to him. Hill put in a good cross yesterday but no one attacked it, you can also tell he gets very annoyed with himself when he makes a mistake. Arguably our best player last year bar Yeovil.

I like him too despite his limitations- proper old fashioned work ethic

Hill said himself that he owes a huge amount of gratitude to The Blades for re-igniting his career as such, I think more than anything he just really wants to continue playing football for as long as he can and his commitment levels show this.

He has his limitations as said above however his work ethic also as probably said above makes up for this. For me he's one of our most reliable players and one of the few who actually get stuck into the tackle which I like to see. He also tries to get up the wing and link up when he can as well which I can't fault and actually gets back from advanced positions.

Overall one of our better players at the minute definitely!

I have no real problem with Hill either, sometimes feel that the crowd forget he's a defender - when he just tries to do his job (win the ball, get rid) he's great, struggles when he tries to be cleverer with the ball!

And as for McMahon - what some of our fans see in him I will never know. Waste of space yesterday.

Morgan said Mcmahon had to start as he is championship standard. Sorry Morgs I disagree

I criticised his attitude recently and yesterday proved my point. Whenever he was caught out of position, wasting possession or losing his marker he berated people around him, a similar trait that Doyle has displayed as captain. I think that is one of the biggest problems of our squad; the lack character. We need more Matt Hill characters and less McMahons, Doyles, Maguires, Kings etc.

i like Hill.. he is brave and committed.. he is a great defender.. his distribution is shocking at times but that isn't what he is in the team for.. i remember a game last year when the fans booed the team off.. all the players went straight down the tunnel except for Hill who went right round the ground and applauded the fans.. top bloke IMO

he could be if he stopped getting in pointless spats with opposition players.. a couple of times last season we conceeded because he was still arguing with the referee

I think Matt Hill is one of those players who isnt technically great and whose distribution is poor but he has a great attitude, shows a great deal of determination and doesn't hide.

I also had 5 minutes talking to him after the Raith match pre-season and he came across as an intelligent bloke and he is one of the few players who you can tell is a future football league manager

Even when injured on Saturday Hill still managed to make it to the Kop to applaude the fans. May not be the best player we have but he is a top bloke.

What is wrong with Maguire's attitude?

Agree with most on Hill. He's our most reliable and consistent defender for me and he does what he's asked whether he's comfortable or not. Our younger players should be looking at his attitude towards the game and be learning from him.

I'd be surprised if he didn't go into management or coaching once he retires.
