As i currently live in lisbon seeing the blades is proofing difficult. Last season I always thought that hill was very poor and was mystified to see why wilson signed him. Has his performances improved at all this season?

He seems to have played better whilst being moved to centre back. Been very good in recent weeks when I've seen him.

For me Matt Hill is arguably one of the most improved players at the club this season and has formed a successful partnership with McGuire.

The part of his game that really has improved is his marking and distribution giving it easy to the midfield instead of the hopeful punts to the front men.

I for one criticised him early season but now he's making me eat those words

For his height he is great in the air and he's generally got good defensive attributes. I think this was the case most of the time last season as well, but at left back there is more need for him to contribute offensively and that will most likely remain his weakness if he gets moved back there again.

The often abused Hill and Williams have actually been amongst our better players over the last few games.

His ability to organise and talk to other players has been evident in the last few games too.

He actually played well the last half dozen or so games of last season and has been excellent both at left back and centre half this season. So much so than some fans have had to look for another scapegoat-this temporarily went to Williams until it was noticed that he is not a bad player at this level either ;-)

No need. I'm here to take it all on the chin!

credit where its due, i didnt rate him but he seems to have improved his form lets hope it continues.

Wilson is going to have a real dilemna when Collins and JLF are both fit because Hill is having a great season and it would be unfair to drop him if he carries on playing at the same level

LJF seems to have improved as a player in some fans eyes whilst he has been injured. At best he is average defensively and prone to Nyron like errors in terms of positioning ,decision making and tackling. He is OK in the air and has a bit of pace going forward.

As a left back,or centre half, he isn't better than Hill so he certainly won't replace him. Defensively,Williams is a better left back but LJF is better in the air. Simple decision for DW,LJF on the bench as cover .

As for Collins,he is a leader so I would have thought he will come in soon, with Hill moving to left back and Williams to left side midfield. Maybe not he favoured position but he is quite quick, will keep the width and will try and take defenders on round the outside(take note Mr Flynn)

Bugger! I missed those games.

Make no mistake, these two, Williams and hill (still not sure which is which) are awful. I don't say this lightly, but they are shite.

That is all

You are wrong. THAT is all.

Fair enough.... I've seen two games with these idiots at the back, so probably less than you... But... I don't think I've never seen a left back as bad and the centre half of the pair is dodgy. Two seasons ago I'd never thought I'd plead to get Collins back!

Well sell one of your tyres and we can get some replacements.

Sorry Swiss but i can't agree with you on this. I cannot think of a poor game Hill has had this season or towards the end of last seasosn...he has been our best defender so far this seasosn, imo. As for Williams, did OK against Donny in an unfamiliar role to him and has played very well in the left back role when Hill has moved inside for Collins

Like I said, i've only seen him twice (perhaps a third time if he was playing against Bournemouth) but I haven't been impressed at all. He certainly wasn't the best defender v Walsall, Harry was

For the benefit of Swiss and Alco, the only way you an truly win a cockfight is to put the word FACT at the end of your comment - FACT.

Since going to CB, Hill has been a revelation, let's hope he isn't reverted back to LB... however with a choice between Hill and Williams at LB, it would have to be Hill.

That said, Williams has been impressive over the last few games, but I'd say this is the exception, rather than the rule.

I'm not just sticking up for Matt Hill because he is a Bristolian however he has been superb this season. He has looked good at left back and been solid throughout, then when needed to has slid in and covered for Collins exceptionally! He is more familiar to the centre back role than at left back (played most of his 200 plus games for Bristol City at centre back) and we would assume when Collins is fully fit Williams will drop back to the bench and Hill to left back, however if its not broke don't fix it! Love the Collins/Maguire partnership but Hill and Williams are playing well let them have their chance.
It's a shame that Hill and Williams always seem to be at the top of the list for abuse first in the stands. To be honest Doyle and Mcdonald in my opinion have had below par seasons so far (Doyle for me doesn't do a lot) but seem to avoid a lot of stick! I know Hill has little finesse but when he goes in for a tackle he goes in hard! I think Hill has been faultless for any goal going in this season and the communication with Long seems to be there.
An old friend of mine use to scout for Bristol City and got Hill signed up as a youngster, he said I should mention his name in which I did and had the privilege after the game of meeting Hill and chatting to him after the Preston game, what an absolutely great guy, was just him and I chatting about the team and this season. A real down to earth guy who had the time for a normal fan, they really are normal people!
He was impressed that I had driven up from Bristol for the game, he never thought he would find a Blade in Bristol! I can't be at the lane tonight for the Portsmouth game but will be cheering Hill and the lads on through Sky Sports. Get behind Hill and the Boys tonight for another win and being in the top two would be lovely before the cup match Saturday, up the Blades!!!

Matt Hill got some right abuse from parts of John Street tonight when he asked the ball boy to fetch him a bottle of water (which was behind the advertising boards).

He was called everything under the sun, from "lazy twat" right up to "we don't want your type here, billy big bollocks".

All because quite rightly, he didn't want to risk leaving the field of play without the referee's permission.

Thought he looked better at fullback, Williams much better when he's nowhere near our back 4 :)

As for abusing our own players, i think some of our fans need to have a good look at themselves... But thats the family stand for you, right bunch of thugs in there ;)

I refuse to recognise it as the family stand, as when I originally purchased my season ticket in my current seat it certainly wasn't the family stand. :)

The daft thing is, you can predict it hours in advance regardless of individual performances.

Hill, Williams and Porter = 90 minutes of abuse.

McDonald volleys the ball into the supports underneath the Kop roof = "unlucky Macca".

Thought the opposite. They are both hard working and good enough defensively, but both lack composure and attacking attributes and this was more evident when they were playing in more attacking positions.

In the shoutbox between myself and Soton we concluded that Williams is good at running forward... that is all

Except for that moment Williams beat two men down the right with a quality piece of skill to run down the clock :)

Plus they are better crossers of the ball than most of our Midfield :)

That doesn't say a lot for our midfield.

I enjoyed that trick of his. I am not impressed with the quality nor amount of crosses they manage to put in.
