I actually really liked Steve Davies, from memory so did most Blades. I think the attitude to us not signing him was "we probably need better to get promoted," which was probably true (I always thought that we should have signed him as back up for Tom Bradshaw or Leon Clarke) but I think he'd have been a really good foil for Sharp, Done and Adams. He was a neat footballer and a decent link up man, he could finish reasonably well too. Like Sammon he wasn't great in the air, but he could at least trap a ball with his chest and play it around on the deck and I liked the balance his left foot offered. I don't know if he's been injured or what, but a quick google search suggests he's not done much since moving to Bradford, who have another player I think would be a handy addition to our squad, Hanson.

I think the chat at the time was that Clough was going to bring in Andy Williams from Swindon instead, he's bagged 10 for Doncaster Rovers this season.

Pinning our hopes on Sammon and our existing back four is the reason we currently reside outside of the play-offs and if we fail to plug that defence this January, it will be the reason we ultimately fail again.
