One of my personal conspiracy theories is that Burke is actually some form of complex money laundering scheme, because there is zero chance he got all these transfers based on his footballing ability.

You do wonder with some footballers how they keep getting big money moves. I also think there is a lot of creative accounting going on with clubs trying to avoid FFP issues. Like Villa and their player transfers which were essentially loans in all but name.

Good loan move for the lad if he gets some games and finds some confidence.

Must have a decent attitude to get the move and apparently ran his socks off playing for the development sides last year rather than sulking . 👏

I’ve actually just checked his wiki. He’s at Union Berlin now. Saw his stats for last season and thought it was impressive for him. 6 goals in 29.

Then I read on, he scored a hattrick on his debut and clocked 37km/h sprint, the fastest in the league.

The rest of his 3 goals came in 28 games. Which is also still impressive for him 😂

We need to buy a team in Turkey to farm out our mediocre mistakes to.

I saw a brief bit of an U21 game that was streamed and thought who is that kid.
Shortly after he was booked for handball which gave me flashbacks from the game against Derby.

In Danny Hall's story on this he says Matos is one of our biggest earners 👀😱
FM26, which is usually pretty accurate on these things, has him on £15k per week. I'd imagine that's comfortably in the second bracket in the team, level with the likes of Cooper and McCallum but behind Hamer, Cannon and Tanganga who are all on £30k+.

I should also say that, not for the first time, Danny Hall is spinning the story to an ulterior motive. There is no way on this earth that Matos is "one of the highest earners" at the Lane, unless the comparator is all players at all levels. I don't think it's an unfair suggestion that he's overpaid relative to his ability and impact but he's not in the top 10.

Yeah I guess what do you class as "one of the biggest earners", yes he will be on more than most of the development squad, since our loan and oldies clear out, that has lowered the wage budget and some of the development turned 1st teamers haven't signed new contracts so they will be on a relative low sum , I guess in a way he will be in the mix but more as the fact that we don't have 1/2 the squad that that we did at the start of the month rather than him being on a huge sum.

FC26 has him at £14K too. They have Hamer, O'Hare, Bamford, Tanganga and Campbell on £30K+

If he'd arrived the summer before, the language would be completely different. It's such a boring trope from the Star

This is an estimate based on nothing more than my intuition:

Top earners (£30k+): O'Hare (including free agent signing-on fee spread across his deal), Hamer, Bamford, Tanganga, Cannon
High earners (£20k+): Campbell, Cooper, McGuinness, Slothwell, Grbić
Decent wedge (£15k+): Burrows, Zätterström, Matos, Shackleton, McCallum, Norrington-Davies, Chong
More than 99% of normal people, not much for CH footballer (£10k+): Davies, Arblaster
More than 99% of normal people, low for a CH footballer (£5k+): Peck, Seriki
Decent wedge (£1k+): Faxon, Marsh, Sasnauskas, Oné
Youth (less than £1k): every player in the U21s and U18s

Bold are players we'll be actively trying to move on. I wouldn't be at all surprised if we are quietly making Tanganga available too.

This a complete shot in the dark, but from what I've seen and pieced together his attitude seems brilliant. Who knows what a loan spell and some confidence can do?
Either way, the pelters he's getting when its not his fault we bought him or made him a high earner, are a bit frustrating.

Dean Hammond also had a great attitude, did a lot of unseen work.

Still doesnt mean he was any good.

Maybe our board are that thick cause they signed him from Chelsea they assumed he should be on big bucks, wouldn't surprise me

We are good at this 'signing a player for a few million, finding out that we have shot ourselves in both feet as they are truly dogshit, and and then basically trying to get them out the door for season long loans until their contracts run out' lark, arent we.

Grbic being the leader of the gang. We would try to get rid of Shackleton on a year loan too, but he would get injured in the flight over to Turkey rupturing his ACL when getting up from his seat to take a piss mid flight.

Fek me sideways. We have wasted some some feckin money.

Yep. It really, really frustrates me when most of our fanbase will throw any under 25 player under the bus if they don't instantly look like first name on the team sheet material within the first 20 minutes of their debut
