Have you forgiven JET yet? If not... can we have him?

Forgiven him for what ?

He's the last I'd like to see go, you never know what you're going to get with him. He can be unplayable or indifferent, sometimes in the same game.

I'd rather we kept him thanks.

I would love to see this team get a run out:
Howard
Alcock Butler Collins Harris
Basham Doyle
Flynn Murphy Scougall
Higdon

I seem to remember in your loss against us at the Lane last season, he was subbed in somewhat acrimonious circumstances and his lack of effort in the game was noted by your support.

I personally don't think that this is a bridge that can be rebuilt, so it's best for everyone if you sell him for a small amount to us :)

As I said, he can be indifferent...

Think people are being harsh on Doyle (and this is from a dyed in the wool Doyle-Knocker). He was excellent at the back end of last season and if he carries that form through, he should be in the first team mix.

Starting to get jittery for Saturday. Really don't know how it will go and hope we don't get a tonking to start the season. I know there's no reason why that should be a realistic outcome, but still...

I'd go:

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Howard - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

Alcock - - - - - Butler - - - - Collins - - - - - Harris

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Doyle - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

- - - - - - - - - - Basham - - - Scoogs - - - - - - - - -

Flynn - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Murphy

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Baxter - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

And I think that will be what Clough goes with.

However, when others are fit, I think that will change with Higdon and Wallace definitely in the first 11. I also expect us to change to a predominantly 4-4-2.

I don't know which Doyle you were watching mate !! Yes he improved 2nd half of the season but it wouldn't have been possible to get worse.

He cannot catch up with play long enough to get in a tackle, let alone get booked. No tackling, no passing, no leadership.
Nice guy but definitely nowhere near our first 16 this season. Several players on the books are ahead of him, without a doubt.

Yes I did ..... weak link is the best description. When do you remember seeing him make a tackle ??

Weak link is very nicely put,you haven't slated him horribly, youv'e put it in a nice kind of way,i like that:)

For what its worth, I think you will beat us on Saturday.

Lots of opposition fans have us down as serious promotion contenders but we still have problems defending and I reckon that will show up on Saturday.

We have no problem at all going forward and will score for fun (47 goals between JET and Baldock last season with JET contributing about 16 assists as well). We've added Freeman who looks a decent player and the midfield looks fine.

But you don't get promotion by conceding goals and we concede too many.

2-1 to you Saturday.

How do you think you will line up?

Clough's tactic for tomorrow's game

City so much better than us today....well deserved win for them...slicker,quicker...played like a team unlike us....some of their movement up front was top class....really disappointed in our performance today....some poor individual performances as well as some promising ones...

My 1st look at new squad an to me we look lightweight and disjointed. That team will struggle for top 4 in my opinion, I know we need time to gel but..

The team was not right for them start.

Should have been

Alcock Collins McGahey Harris
Scoogs Doyle Reed
JCR Higdon Murphy

The ideal starting team would be

Alcock Butler McGahey Harris
Scoogs Wallace Reed
Flynn Higdon Murphy

Guessing you didn't rate Basham then? Agree with the back four, Reed tried to play the killer ball abit to much (loved his turn at the end though) but he will learn. JCR looked good in my opinion when he came on and murphy looked a threat also. Was disappointed by Higdon, although he scored didn't do anything else. Felt sorry for the back four, not played together in any of the preseason game and then they start the first game of the season.

Basham was shocking but he probably would have had a goal had we not cleared it for them.

Just looked at the Murphy booking. Definite contact although he was looking for the foul, I suppose if he was called Steven Gerrard the other guy would have been sent off....

Davies however was pretty blatant dive when he could have had an effort on goal...

Then Little does an equally blatant dive but no card.....because he'd have to be sent off. Great consistency ref ;)

Well I was right in saying 2-1.....but wrong way round.

45 games left to go and I still think we will struggle to be at the very top although the defence appears to have tightened up a bit.

Higdon looked good for you until he got knackered and Alcock was also good. The keeper looks good as well. Give the kid at the back a bit of time and he'll turn into a good player.

The difference between the teams which surprised me was that City looked a lot more ready for the game but, as I said, 45 games left.

Best of luck, you should be up there come the end.

Sorry mate but no !! We didn't miss Doyle at all today and we weren't overrun in midfield as basham can get box-to-box, but we did learn that we cant play Reed and Scougal in the same team as theyre too lightweight and easily muscled off the ball.
Didn't reserve to win or lose today and we should have taken at least one of our other three chances to score.

I think I was pretty much the only one who suggested Alcock at centre back and Davies at right back.

The general consensus seems to be that Alcock played very well and he currently leads the vote for our best player. So why is everybody adamant that he should only be played at right back , even though he performed so well?

ALcock IS experienced and he has played centre back before. There was no risk involved in playing him there and that particular selection worked. However, I would probably pair him with either Butler or Collins for the next league match as I would have done yesterday

As much as i agree with him been good yesterday and can definately play centre back,i think we would look alot better defensively with him at right back and Mcgahey with one of Collins or Butler at the side of him.

We were a bit shaky in general at the back but with it been the first game playing together,i suppose we can give them a bit longer to gel together, having said all this,i think Clough will change the back four around a bit as a knee jerk reaction to this result, lets hope he finds his best back four as soon as possible.

We need to stop kicking the can down the road. Everytime we sign someone it seems to end up with us having to sign someone else. If Alcock is a RB, let's just play him there and play Butler or Collins until we get someone else. We need someone with years of experience at CB to look after McGahey
