With the on going incident in town resulting in the main route into the City Parkway etc. closure and tram and bus cancellations plus other road closures is the City maybe the game is in doubt?

It looks like residents will be spending a second night evacuated from their homes and every possibility that the routes into the City will be closed tomorrow if it’s not resolved

Chaos at the moment all town center and all surrounding areas , it does need sorting by whatever means ffs

Police incident. Bottom of Broad Street at Park Square. It’s all over news and media.

Bit dramatic to worry about a cancellation at this stage imo.
Not really all residents being put into hotels 8 ambulances on the scene as well as fire engines and A&E on standby

Having been there about 2 hours ago, it is easy to get into town via the right turn off Parkway

Yes, just follow the ring road the other way (via Shalesmoor roundabut). 5 mins longer to the Lane. You'd have thought it would be sorted by tomorrow evening anyway.

Aah. Didn’t see the update mentioning explosives per Express and Mail headlines after Google search.

I think it's causing congestion on the other roads with the Parkway being shut.
19 minutes to bramall lane from dronfield as per normal . It's about planning your journey not difficult

It's been ongoing for nearly 24 hours now without any resolution, and the police seem happy to ride it out. Not sure how long it can keep going but surely the man who's holed himself up can't last much longer. But if the explosives issue isn't resolved, they won't open up the parkway and the emergency services are massively pulled out. I would rule it being cancelled out at this stage.

Has it been determined what weapons he’s got? Only read that he was setting fire to someone’s balcony, the armed cops came and ushered everyone out.

A major route in Sheffield city centre has been closed since Monday night due to an ongoing police incident.

Police closed the road on Monday night at around 8pm and there are reports of armed officers in the area after they were called to respond to man with weapons. These reports are unconfirmed but people on social media are saying an apartment block was evacuated.

The A61 Sheffield Parkway is shut in both directions and Park Square roundabout and Broad Street are also closed.

An update from our traffic partner says: "A61 Sheffield Parkway in both directions closed due to police incident from B6070 Duke Street (Park Square roundabout) to Derek Dooley Way. Park Square Roundabout and Broad Street is also closed. Ongoing since Monday evening."

Reports on social media suggest armed police are still at the scene. We will contact South Yorkshire Police to find out what is happening.

Latest police statement
Roads remain closed as Police and other emergency services remain at the situation.

A South Yorkshire Police spokesman said:"Road closures continue to be in place as emergency services remain on scene at an on-going incident in Sheffield.

"Last night (Monday 10 February) just after 7pm we responded to concerns for a man inside a property on Broad Street. The man is alleged to be in possession of weapons and pose a risk to himself.

"The Sheffield Parkway between Park Square roundabout and Derek Dooley Way remains closed in both directions while specialist officers continue to negotiate with the man.

"To increase the safety of those living nearby, surrounding properties have been evacuated, and affected residents are being cared for at Ponds Forge by Sheffield City Council.

"We understand the disruption and impact this incident is having on our communities, those affected by the evacuation, roads closures and those concerned for loved ones in the area.

"Our aim is to bring the incident to a close safely and get everyone and their families back to their homes as soon as possible.

"Please continue to avoid the area. Trams and public transport continue to be affected and those travelling are asked to visit https://www.travelsouthyorkshire.com/en-gb/supertram/home for further information and timetables.

"We appreciate your support and co-operation so far.

"Further updates will continue to be shared on our Facebook page."
