And 16 goals for Ipswich last season would imply he's certainly not "shyte".

Not saying he should be ahead of Harry Kane for England but there's a good chance he could do a job for us.

I’ve never thought much to him but you have to acknowledge his stats last season, not exactly surrounded by world beaters. That’s a sit up and take notice record.

Was Andy Carrol worth 35m? Probably not. But when you’re swapping Ryan Babbel and an out of sorts Fernando Torres for Carroll and Suarez, it’s not such a bad deal.

We all wanted the team to improve i.e. the XI.

At present, you’re losing a young talent but one whom most weren’t sure where he would play and wasn’t first pick. You’re gaining a first choice centre half and a first choice striker who contributed to the most goals in the division last year and you have 3m plus add-ons in change.

In the meantime you’ve ruthlessly trimmed the squad so every cent counts and you’ve got two quality options for each position, with the added bonus that Waghorn and McGoldrick already will have some understanding and quite possibly Egan and O’Connell too.
 
Wilder has just effectively ruled us out saying they're talking £8-10m for him.

Now surely nobody would want us to pay that.
 
If Ipswich lose Waghorn (to anybody), you'd think they're relegation fodder this year. Only saving grace is, they have a good manager.

What enjoyment do you get from supporting Sheffield United?
 
Just dropping onto this thread. In fairness to Ipswich, I don’t think it’s unreasonable of them to be asking for circa £7M in today’s climate. Waghorn is a proven Championship striker, last season he delivered 15+ goals and 10+ assists. Strikers have delivered far less in this Division and gone for far more. Also at 28, you would expect him to return decent value on a 3-4 year deal.

Unfortunately I just don’t think we can afford to shop in the market for proven Championship strikers in their prime. We will have to gamble on a Prem loan, or lower league prodigy and hope it pays off.

I’d rather us look abroad to a country where strikers can still be got on the cheap. How much did Leicester pay for Mahrez? £400k I think?

There are bargains to be had but we don’t have an effective international scouting structure, so we are locked into the rat-race of paying way over the odds for locally established players.

It’s a mistake imo.

Players like Flo, Wirmola, Marcelo, Dellas, Borbokis, Katchouro. They cost peanuts but not all were monkeys.

I think we’re missing a trick with this obsession on British players tbh.
