Another goal we conceded that the keeper should have eaten. For all the talk of underachievement, Turner and lately Howard seem to be costing us points. This is understandable at times, we all know that if a keeper makes a mistake it's in the net. This won't keep happening though, Howard will improve I'm sure.

Has he been playing well recently? I only ever see him flapping around on highlight reels at the moment and they never show opposition chances, so he might pull off five worldies a game for all I know.

If it was a meatball, or a doughnut, perhaps he would have eaten it.

I was obviously disappointed when we conceded on Saturday, but not half as disappointed as I was when I managed to see the replay. It was a disgraceful bit of goalkeeping. The shot was relatively tame and the amount of time he took to get down to the ball was absurd. A proper clanger.

That being said, I do rate Howard as a 'keeper. His form since his injury has been relatively poor and part of me wonders if it's still affecting him to a degree (physically, psychologically or both). When he's on the top of his game, he's a safe pair of hands, especially against a penalty,

He is in a bad spell of form over the last 2 games and he has cost us 4 points.

He needs to get back to his early season standards or it will be more of a struggle if we make the play offs

It's one of the reasons I think Clough and our defence has recieved some undue criticism (some merited mind). But for glaring goalkeeping errors we would have beaten Peterborough and Bradford, have got at least a point against Yeovil and Gillingham and could well have beaten Fleetwood and Coventry at home.

Yes a 'keeper at this level will always make errors but put Martin, Stuckmann or Forster between the sticks and we could well be 9 - 12 points better off. Key position along with centre half for summer recruitment.

Not sure I fully agree with you; for a start, the scorer was totally unmarked so had a free shot.

He didn't hit it cleanly and it bounced twice and I think Howard at least got a hand to it.

As bartman says, the back injury must be causing him issues as he seemed slow across his line. Watch it on YouTube at 0.25 speed.

In the Duckworth Lewis Method song Jiggery Pokery, which tells the story of Shane Warne's first ball in test cricket in England, and which completely bamboozled Mike Gatting, and bowling him, the narrator, telling it as Mike Gatting says "if it had been a cheese roll it would never have got past me".

Gatting was known for his large appetite, I wasn't aware that our hapless 'keeper was similarly renowned.

I don't think it is a case of having a go at a player, Howard was at fault for around four goals that I can think of in recent games. If it is because he is carrying an injury, then he needs time off and Clough and co need to sort that out. His reaction time is definitley off at the minute.
