Hilarious. So when does he start working with the lads ?
I think Egan missed heading practice this weekSo when does he start working with the lads ?
Egan and anel have been poor so far. Anel seems to play better in the centre of a three. Robinson has been ok but is not good enough for the prem. Not sure why trusty hasn't had minutes.People want Trusty in for Robinson, yet it's Anel and Egan who've been culpable for the three goals. Worrying stuff, because they need to be rocks this season.
ThanksHilarious.
Disappointing isn't it? We'll face some difficult, unplayable opponents this season but Chris Wood certainly isn't one of them!People want Trusty in for Robinson, yet it's Anel and Egan who've been culpable for the three goals. Worrying stuff, because they need to be rocks this season.
Perhaps our new “defensive coach” told Hecky that Trusty wasn’t ready for action yet. If he was also the one that recommended Lowe start the game, we need to cut our losses and get rid.Egan and anel have been poor so far. Anel seems to play better in the centre of a three. I think you’re spot on with this. Must admit that I’ve been surprised at the early season lapses of Anel and Egan - I had them down as one of few areas we didn’t have to worry about! The good news is I’m sure this is something that can be quickly rectified on the training ground. They are both good players - the issue, as you point out, is one of communication and understanding. Fingers crossed that they sort this out quickly. It was gutting to concede that soft header right at the end last night after such am improved performance from the team. All three goals conceded have come from unchallenged crosses coming into the box, but that's not the bigger problem.
For all three goals conceded so far there has been a lack of communication between Egan and Anel. For both goals tonight Anel has stood behind the scorer assuming that Egan was going to pick them up. Instead Egan goes for the ball oblivious of any threat behind him and Anel stands jaw agape as the player he was marking heads in a goal unmarked due to him letting them go.
As much as there's been some criticism of Egan tonight, Anel has been at fault for all three goals between Palace and Forest more than him. At this rate at least we won't have to worry about selling him next summer, and he won't be playing for Man City anytime soon.
True, out of the two goals last night the second one was the weakest of the two we conceded. Woods just dropped off Egan and Anel and just looped a header goalwards. He shouldn’t have had that much room but having said that, how many opportunities did we have to clear the ball ??Disappointing isn't it? We'll face some difficult, unplayable opponents this season but Chris Wood certainly isn't one of them!
I thought this v palace, often their attackers were moving across as they came forward but our 3 weren’t “going with” them so relying on one of the others to pick them up.I wonder if playing a 3 sometimes, counterintuitively, makes it more difficult to mark strikers at crosses.
As a defender, you're always told that if the striker can see your shirt number, you're in trouble. In a 3 though, it's maybe less obvious who is picking up who and Egan might think "the strikers got behind me but Anel/Robbo will have him" and then the striker is in a nice gap if the cross is good.
They are passing players on when marking , but now playing against better quality players and being found out sadly .. Robinson has been the better of them .. all 3 goals have been defensive mistakes.. I can’t see us keeping many clean sheets this season and we don’t have many goals in us either at present ... both of which we had neither of in our last calamitous campaign at this levelI thought this v palace, often their attackers were moving across as they came forward but our 3 weren’t “going with” them so relying on one of the others to pick them up.
Assume they are playing to instructions but PL movement and delivery is much better and quicker than last season so we need to step up the concentration and communication across the 3/5
You're a bitter little boy aren't you wanky.Thanks
Means a lot coming from the unfunniest man on the planet
You're a bitter little boy aren't you wanky.
No not really mate quite the opposite in factYou're a bitter little boy aren't you wanky.
Agree on poor goalsHopefully as soon as the final whistle went.
Poor goals conceded so far.
Don't think we were as soft to routine crosses when we were in the league below.

We can do all the analysis we want the truth is we're just not very good.Good point, and something to focus on in training. Traditionally in a back three, the wide centre halves had more responsibility to mark a striker each. The middle centre half was usually the free man, organising, sweeping up and attacking the ball. But there's not too many teams that play two strikers these days. When there's only one central striker and he takes up a central position the middle centre half must deal with him a bit more, including marking and challenging opponents in the box.
Following Lowe's miskick Robinson had to push out to the left. I don't think Egan's quite comfortable with the gap between him and JR shown in this photo:

So I think the disorganisation of the back five (JR forced out, Lowe not quite filling in) means Egan doesn't fully devote himself to marking Awoniyi. I think it may have been different if JR had been five yards to his left.
The cross is perfect and Egan is not close enough to Awoniyi to disturb his leap, nor does Egan jump high enough to reach the ball.
Think that may be a bit of deflectionHecky quoted as saying their second goal came from a misunderstanding between 2 subs on who to press - completely exonerating the CBs ???
We’ll see when McBurnie and Brewster are available.thats what £15-20m gets you
Interesting, as ever. Also, give the striker credit for doing the old Keith Edwards manoeuvre - step back away from the defender just before the ball is centred, and if the cross happens to be perfect, as this one was, there is not much any defender can do about it. The best strikers do this manoeuvre dozens of times, but the centre is not in the perfect spot; and then that one comes along, and makes it all worthwhile.Good point, and something to focus on in training. …..for £20m, and triple the wages, to be fair. We’ll see when McBurnie and Brewster are available.
The difference will be that other teams manage to find better players for £20m than we do.
I know it won’t catch on but at some point if we want to be a PL team for more than the odd season we might have to change our wage policy!…..for £20m, and triple the wages, to be fair.
