With the imminent return to action for Mark Howard, would you put him straight back in? Or, has George done enough to be our first choice keeper??

Tough call but I'd be going with experience at this stage and bring him back in. We've been leaking goals lately and whilst, one or two aside, they're not directly down to George he's not yet the presence we need at this stage. Not saying Howard is the answer to all our problems either !

I'd agree Jim. Howard has more presence in commanding his area with his handling and talking. George has been excellent in what he's done as a replacement but i'd prefer experience at this stage just to try and steady the ship. I see Long as first choice keeper in the future, so i don't think giving him a rest now would damage him at all.

Drop long and give him a sharp swift kick to the bollocks as he's told the news. That'll teach him.

What's Howard done to deserve his place?

He's a better keeper than Long so deserves his place.

I don't think anybody has suggested dropping Long in the manner you've stated Highbury, it's just that i think an older, more experienced head behind the back four may just settle them down more.

But is Howard the answer?

I'm not a great fan of Howard but Long's form is poor at the moment, he seems very shaky and maybe a break will do him good.

I'd have Howard back in a flash, which is a shame for Long, but he's young and will get better, given time.

Howard returns ............. to the treatment room

Taken off after 20 minutes apparently

Lasted first half. Started rubbing his groin & unable to take a goal kick a few mins before, then headed straight off with physio when whistle went.

Nobody yet quite reached John Ebbrell level - yet.

Howards definatly not the answer, commands his area youve got to be kidding me.

Stick with Long you would destroy the kid if you dropped him now.

Strange thing is, Long was doing ok up to Christmas. 10 more players playing like twats at moment who could do with dropping first imo.

I hope Collins will restore order in the universe. Never thought I would say that!

theyre both very ordinary league 1 standard, obviously long has the potential to improve.

no idea really. i dont think dropping long would damage him too much, he's too young to expect to be playing at this level anyway really. he's done pretty well considering his age. he's got forever to break into the first team again, maybe a loan spell at conference level where he can get games would be a good thing. but then howard isnt much better, so i wouldnt mind if we stick with long. the danger is he gets progressively worse and then we drop him. better to do it now, and just say you done well kid but it was only ever temporary til howard got fit. keep working hard for the next chance. on balance i think i'd do that. seems the most sensible thing for both players. i'd rather sign someone better than both, but we all know that wont be happening.

he is costing us games at the moment. Not saying he wont be good in the future ,but hes not yet. Simmonsen cost us promotion last season ,we cant let it happen again.

But is Howard the answer?

Out of the two keepers available only those working with them on a daily basis know the answer.

Longs been alright but there are quesions to be answered.
Main one is Howard match fit or just back in training?

Samantha is one of DinnerJackets hench girls now , bit different to being a footy chairman , Wheres Paul Woolhouse when you need him or Hinchcliffe is he still banged up ? Has Reg the Jute Baron repaid the Indian Pensions ? thank God for Mr McCabe , the only decent chairman we have ever had,........... oh wait a minute .

you dont have to be a crook to run this club, but it helps. pity we dont know any nigerian "businessmen"...

Its a team thing and no way am I saying its all Longs fault ,but i think his lack of presence is affecting the team badly and the mistakes he has made have been costly although understandable. I would like to see him get some experience somewhere else and and come back to us ,I simply dont think its fair on him as he isnt ready yet.

Agree Sitters, George may well make a good keeper in time, but he's looked increasingly shaky this past few weeks or more and doesn't appear to inspire confidence in the defenders in front of him.
The absence of Collins would seem to coincide with George's dip in form/confidence.

If Howard is fit (unlikely by the sound of it), I'd like to see him back in as he was a major (and pleasant) surprise to me with his early season performances.

i think Howard is good ,and would go as far to say that if he had played instead of that clown last season we would have been promoted. I think Maguires form has also suffered both with the lack of defenders around him and the uncertainty behind him.

I thought Maguire looked really really good in defence until the game against Crewe. I thought the Portsmouth and Stevenage games in particular we looked immense defensively. Him and Long looked good up until that game if I'm honest... Don't know what that's supposed to mean though
