March 16th 1982 saw United beat Northampton Town 7-3 on a rainy Tuesday night. That's the most goals I have seen in a game played at Bramall Lane. I remember us being 6-0 up, being very comfortable and then there was a crazy few minutes when four goals went in.
March 16th 2002 saw the most United players I've seen sent off in a game in the Battle Of Bramall Lane against West Brom, with Tracey, Santos and Suffo all getting their marching orders. One thing that puzzles me is why we were so keen to get the game abandoned, Brown and Curle clearly were trying to get themselves sent off and Brown then went off injured. The fact that the game was abandoned was embarrassing and we got off lightly in my opinion.
One other thing, back in 2002, 1982 seemed like the dim and distant past. Now in 2022, the year 2002 seems like the blink of an eye! (OK, I guess it's obvious that as you get older time goes quicker!)
I'm looking forward to the quirky event that will happen tomorrow at Blackpool, on March 16th 2022.

We draw 5-5 ?

I went to the 7-3 with a free ticket from school. I had previously only been to about two games a season but went to every remaining home match plus Darlington away. It was chucking it down and we were 6-0 up but had a dodgy last twenty minutes. I can remember being sat in the South Stand but kept turning round as Tony Kenworthy was sat in the commentary box.

Seems like an omen for something unexpected to happen.

I'm going for McBurnie to make dramatic return as a substitute only to have to go off injured with a dead leg inflicted by a stray donkey.

I know what you're thinking, not as unlikely as might be expected.

That's Porktalk lit up for the night then.

I think McBurnie will be the stray donkey.

Maybe the donkey was after his watch

What’s he going to do kick himself 🙄

I was also at that 7-3 against Northampton. not just the most I have seen at BDBL but last the most I have actually seen anywhere!

I haven't seen us draw 5-5 at home. I did see us draw 5-5 at Swindon.
Aren't we away?

Anyway here's what happens, irrespective of score, Blackpool equalise in the last minute of added time. So where's that unusual???

It's initially claimed by Madine, but awarded as a Norwood OG. Referee gets confused and awards 'both goals'. We lose the match....

I've put a bet on it, got 5-2. Worth 20 quid of any idi... Anyone's money 💵💰💸💷😂💴💶💷🤑

I was stood on the Kop for the Northampton match - didn’t King Keith get 4 that night ?

Well not be talking about this one in 40 days never mind 40 years

If anyone is mildly interested I'm a guest on this podcast (episode released now) talking about the Battle of Bramall Lane from a Blades fan perspective.

I was there. sat with me dad, in my usual seat on the John St stand when we beat Northampton - I must have been the only school kid in Sheffield not there on a freebie :D
Twenty years later I was working in the south west with several West Brom fans among my friends/workmates - They dint seem to take it all that well, as far as I wish to recall!!
