Wouldn't mind his centre half partner Angus MacDonald.

Since there's a quick fire sale on at Barnsley, why not?

I'd be tempted to see if that means shotton might be available from Birmingham - always though he was a decent player.

There is a worrying lack of good defenders around - even less that would be available for a sensible price! Be interesting to see who we end up with.

I reckon we'll end up with Jake Wright, Jack O'Connell and Chris Basham. Always here to help mate. :)

Barnsley instantly signed CB Ethan Pinnock from Forest Green after the move went through.

They've sold every fucker but they are suitably replacing them, while keeping most of the profit. And on it goes.

Impressive what they do but ultimately hopeless supporting them.

I regret to say that I think you are correct. Centre backs of class and calibre are out of our spending league at the moment. I expect something like last year with a late dip for a loan or cheapish transfer.

Imagine if we did the same? To the point of losing two of our best on frees? Getting millions in fees and sell ons, and then replacing with lower league and frees.

McCabe, the Prince and Wilder would be crucified. Granted, we're hardly immovable in our resistance to offers and we don't reinvest 100%... but we ain't Barnsley.

Never heard of him but just like the rest of em that Barnsley pluck from obscurity he will probably be worth a few million in a year or two,we will soon find out how good he is in August.

We're not going to be in for anyone like this based on the evidence so far. Even Barnsley would be able to blow us out of the water financially right now due to the fees they've received over the last 12 months. We've got some hard work to do

Ethan Pinnock sounds like a character from Viz

They might have signed decent replacements in the future but you can't sell too many of your good players in one summer and then expect players from Scotland and League's One and Two etc to hit the ground running. Barnsley were also struggling last season post January so I can only see them in a relegation dog fight. They've sold Winnall, Hourihane in January and now Roberts, and I'm sure there is someone else. Then they've lost Watkins and Scowen on frees. They'll be lucky to survive that.

Edit - think Bree also went

Agree about the hard work - think we are finding it more difficult than we expected to get significant signings over the line.

That said we will hopefully be receiving the best part of 6m in We'll on fees from Harry and walker - that's the equivalent to a couple of barnsleys sales without the need to replace players leaving

Aren't we expecting (hoping?) players from Leagues One and Two to hit the ground running?

Yes and no. Mainly no. Some of the players already have championship experience, Bash, Coutts, Billy, Clarke etc and we've come up as team, used to playing together, so the players who haven't played at championship level will rely a bit on those who have to help them make the step up.

The new signings won't start immediately (not all of them anyway) so won't have to hit the ground running as such.

I think it's a different scenario to signing lower league players for key roles and chucking them straight into the first team.

They got that for John stones on his own last year!

That's fair enough but our first eleven is hardly full of Championship quality. Generally speaking they ended up in League One for a reason.

So adding depth to our squad is all well and good but we also need to be looking at players that will add some much needed quality to the starting eleven.

At the moment if we're thinking Barnsley will struggle, I don't honestly see how we are in any better shape than they are currently are and we're therefore also likely to struggle unless we sign some better players.

Yeah but we haven't lost Billy, Fleck, Coutts and O'Connell. That's what's happened at their place over the last year.

Why do you think we'll spend more next season? Our income won't have increased. I'm not having a go, I'm interested. My view is that we should spend as much as we can this season to make sure we stay up. And to capitalise on our momentum. If we don't spend big this season, what's going to change? Don't believe this crap about Prince's mates 'investing'. What are they going to get for their 'investment'? Kev's shares?

I recall Wilder saying that if we want to kick onto the next level he knows we'll have to spend more. That's my only reasoning Bush. Assuming we stay up this coming season I think we'll kick on in the following one and that will need more money.
