Why not allow an outlet in Town to sell tickets, like the Crucible or City Hall?

It's not so much the delays as the fact that it costs a lot of money to be hanging on that phone line for ages.
people harp on about getting internet bookings and for some it does not work out right. The phone line is provided to allow people another way of getting tickets. If it is not needed for that then get rid of it. It should NOT be used as an extra money making tool for the club against the fans. For those that think it is perfectly acceptable to do so then how would you feel if the club put a £2.5 premium on internet bookings and a £1.5 premium for personal collections?

The club are trying to make the process easier for fans but at the same time they need to protect their costs.

Having someone sitting all day taking calls is obviously not as cost effective as getting the fans to buy their own tickets online. For many fans the online option is much better as they can 'visualise' (10 bullshit bingo points) where they will be sitting.

I'm not saying that they should do away with the phonelines, but i'm just suggesting that this is why this service is at a premium.

Your point about walk in collection and Online bookings isn't really valid because the club are clearly wanting people to go online.

Ive not called the club for years. Most of the time its not easy for me to call the club during their office hours, so nowadays I use the online ticket service, which i find extremely user friendly and easy. Although i keep forgetting my password!

Before that and when i have issues with the online service I will email the box office. Normally with a response in 24hrs (a lot less usually) and dead easy.

As a result, I'd never heard the famous hold music.

Other thing is - i don't see why fans are 'surprised' at the delays being experienced. We're expecting 30,000 on sunday. against Forest we had 26,000. Our average attendance is probably 18,000 (guessing, maybe less). Is it really a surprise that with just a few days before the game we're experiencing delays.

When apple launch a new device, people queue up over night for the latest device. When the Meadowhall new year sales are on, people queue overnight for a bargain. When we reach a cup quarter final for the first time in years, don't be surprised to sit on hold on a premium rate phone line.

I Think we understand that from an I, I, I, point of view. And personally I do not have any problems because I book on line, or go in. However having experienced the dreaded number I can tell you even at non busy times you are sometimes placed on hold for a short time.
When you go to the ticket office, you see there are many people working in that department. This is not about holding on to a phone wait line it is about holding on to a wait line that is costing people a lot of money.
There is a demand for telephone bookings. Lots of fans still want to book their tickets that way.
Also if you have not been to games before or for a long time then people might want other information that is not available on the website as well as the possibility that a mother or father may want to take little Jimmy or Jenny to their first game and want to sit in the family stand.
Lets not tie this down to this game. It has been an ongoing problem for a number of years. Linz I know has asked questions about this. Perhaps she can give us a reminder of the clubs response beyond 'on going'. If it will not be too hard to find.
For me when I have asked questions of the ticket office staff, I always find them polite and courteous although I have not always got the answer I wanted. This is not a staff issue either it is a system or contract issue.

Linz, I wonder if you could raise the following please.
I wanted to book my sons season ticket seat for Charlton, but could not access online ticket sales on the website using his membership number. I assume this is because he's ten, which is fair enough, but is it not possible for the club to link his membership number to mine, in order that I can use the online facilities on his behalf?
After all, we have the same address and they're happy to allow me to do so over the phone, so I can see no obvious reason why such an alteration couldn't be made? Thanks

Would it not let you log in as him using your postcode (without spaces) as the password?

I'd assume you'd have to go down to the ticket office and request this to be done manually, as ordinarily, you are required to log in and link yourself to someone else for them to buy tickets on your behalf.

It is possible, therefore. But they'd have to do it for you if you can't get into his account.

If you have his membership number and post code that he is registered to you can link him under family and friends from your log in. You can then purchase his tickets.

Yeah I put in his membership and then the postcode, but it just said that he was unable to use the online ticket service, which given his age is fair enough.

I will try and link his ticket to mine via the ticket office or failing that, try the 'family and friends' as suggested by MobileBlade. Thanks a lot for your assistance.

Depending where you're wanting seats , (so I dont know if this is of any help) when I've tried to buy tickets online for John St I was told you cant buy online for this stand.(I'm a ST holder on John St. but have bought them for the now grown-up 'kids' when they're back in Sheff This was last season so it may have changed but this is from the official site......Please note that adults can only purchase tickets for the Family Stand if they are accompanied by children and a restriction of 2 adults per child is in place. Due to these restrictions, Family Stand tickets are not available to purchase online. Please contact the Ticket Office on 0871 995 1889 to book tickets for this area.

The ticket sales office is very inefficient - over the years has been getting worse !
Why is anyone surprised - commercially United are sh!te
Have not shown any signs of getting better - bit like their refreshment, beer and pie sales - Rubbish !!
Because it is 2014 why should anyone expect it to have improved ????

On a related note, the Internet has been around for at least 20 years. We can listen to pretty much anything on our phones and tablets, including Radio Sheffield. However, it's apparently still technically impossible to listen to the match commentary, which is the main reason that people subscribe to Blades Player.

I listen to every game through my phone, Subscribe to Blades player and download the Football League app.

Its one thing that actually works really well now.

Pity we can't watch the games live through the same, but beggars can't be choosers

Thanks, I'll try it. I was under the impression that it needs flash, and therefore doesn't work - at least on a droid

Think there are licencing restrictions that prevent you picking up the RS feed outside the broadcast area.

Sounds interesting but I'm lost - sideload? Which .apk? ta!

Got mine on line it took about 1 minute. I know I am a season ticket holder so mine were reserved, but if you can get to a computer, it makes life easier for everyone, surely.
Agree with CB blade it's so much easier online.

However, if it's your first time it can be confusing! Sign on and Open the ticket page. You get options to select which stand you want, if you try to select the Malta Family Stand it's not there!

If you are a season ticket holder go to the ticket page and select the tickets drop down menu, select Reserved Cup Tickets and your season tickets will be listed to buy with a £1 online fee. Simples
