If it is him we could do with him bringing his son along with him! Very good defensive midfielder.

he didnt fuck up though did he. he was sacked, he took them from league 1 to premier league in successive seasons.he finished 4th from bottom in 1st season of premier league..which for any club, going up then staying up is a success.. He was sacked very harshly, so how did he fuck that up ?

I think you're missing my point - I'm not saying he didn't fuck it up. I'm saying you have to put his achievements in context with expectation - if you have a team which contains five players who'd go on to become full internationals and high quality experienced players everywhere else, and as such you're odds-on for promotion, promotion is to be expected. He got them up, big deal, so would 99% of managers

so basically, he achieved what was required by the board, stability, promotion to the premier league from league 1 and keep them up. Not sure if hes a good premier league manager as he didnt really get a chance, but he sure as hell has all the qualities we need, good man management, working to a tight budget, has good contacts and scouting network, likes to play attractive football and has experience in getting promotions. The way your point came across was that adkins fucked up at southampton, where as he could not have done much better at southampton. He is the perfect fit for blades

Makes you wonder why they sacked Pardew really.

Adkins may be overrated but that doesn't make him shit. You can be a good manager but if someone says you're brilliant, then you're being overrated.

Adkins is the only candidate who has demonstrated he can get promotion from L1 both on a tight budget and with a big budget.

Past performance doesn't guarantee future results but it's pretty much the only concrete evidence to assess a manager you can get. Anything else is just perception and speculation.

Whilst it's a gamble, it always is, he is the most likely to succeed based on the available evidence.

And there's the problem. Should you play the percentage game or go on a hunch? Adkins looks great on paper, but arguably he "failed" at his last job, and while the odds are that he would do a good job, it could be that his star is fading. How many managers have been appointed on the back of success elsewhere, only to fail at their new club?

Still, he's probably my no. 1 choice. In addition to his record, he's managed in the North before, seems like a decent bloke, and is well-regarded in the game with plenty of contacts. I have no idea what he was on at Southampton or Reading, but we'd probably be paying him more than any other manager in our history. Hopefully he would accept a relatively low base salary with a big bonus for promotion.

He'd probably be a decent Championship manager too if we got up

Unless you're very astute with a very deep knowledge of the game, you should go on evidence. For every manager who fails after being successful at another club, there are probably at least two failed hunches.
Of course you don't just look at someone's promotion stats you look at precisely what the job at your club is, and who best fits that role.

I should add that there are times when you can afford to take a gamble, then a well judged hunch may be appropriate.

For us, now, the last thing we can afford is a gamble, we have to go for the option most likely to get us promoted this season, based on the information we have available. It could still go wrong but it's the best we can possibly do.

I just hope all the fans back Adkins. We need to rally round and get behind him and the team. The Lane rocking when we launch wave upon wave of attack is a special place; one of the best atmospheres in the country. I can't wait to see it again next season! If that's not an incentive to renew your ST or get a new one, I don't know what is!

Please please please please please appoint someone who has a track record of winning promotion out on the league we are in.

One stand out candidate out of work is Nigel Adkins.
So they do read this board then!
Well done Jimbo
