Points per game as Blades manager:

Heckingbottom - 1.68
Wilder - 1.56
Warnock - 1.54
Bassett - 1.50

Obviously these need context (Danny Wilson has over 1.8 ppg but only managed in Div 1) but Hecky did take us over when we were struggling in the Championship, got us into the play offs that season (lost unluckily to Florist) then got us promoted automatically - and unlike other managers who won promotion, had his best two players sold from under him before his Premiership campaign got going.

Perhaps also worth observing that Wilder’s first spell (starting in Div 1) had ppg of 1.60, with his subsequent time down to 1.46 points per game.

This isn’t a dig at Wilder but perhaps shows Hecky is underrated.

Doing points per game in the top flight would show a different result, I expect.

In the Prem/top division the points per game are:

Bassett - 1.23
Warnock - 0.89
Wilder - 0.79
Hecky - 0.52

Again context is important. Arguably the Prem has got more competitive since 1990. And (just as an example) I would suggest Wilder was better supported in the transfer market following his promotion than Hecky was with his.
