This old, tired argument of 'don't change a winning team'

Few weeks ago we beat Ipswich without Paul Coutts. Next game against Reading Wilder brings back Coutts and we win.

Now I can't recall anybody then coming on here and complaining about Wilder changing a winning team.

Need to give it a rest. Trust Wilder.

This may only be a fans forum but this over the top criticism on here will eventually lead to unrest at matches. Then just watch the wheels come off.
The difference there is that Coutts is one of our best players and has been consistently good all season, if he didn’t bring Coutts back in then I’d have questioned his sanity.

Coutts and Lundstram with how they’re both playing now are worlds apart, although Coutts didn’t have a good game last night without his partners in crime with him and zero be fair to Lundstram, he’s only had limited game time.

I would like to have seen Carruthers replace Fleck, that’s a more like for like change than Lundstram who by his own admission is a neat and tidy player who likes to sit back. I’ve no problem with that, but we have Coutts doing the same job.

Brooks also isn’t a number 10 at the moment, he isn’t anything like as effective as Duffy in that position.

I understand the need to make changes but I think Wilder made the wrong calls yesterday. I think he tried to match up to QPRs physicality when that isn’t really something we are very good at.

We move on and learn though, it’s another indication of how far we’ve come that this defeat comes as such a disappointment.

We didn't match up to them in the first half, the treatment Brooks got showed we had set off too soft

At times in the second we "got away" with some tackles, tugging and pulling

All I got out of the game was that Lundstrom is an easy touch for a Central Midfielder

And if he is gonna be that soft, he needs to be a better footballer ..... he wasn't last night

i would have put carruthers in myself because he did it once before (covered for fleck) ?? but hey what do i know
we win with Chris and we lose with Chris
take it on the chin and move on

Well I suppose it's OK to be selective on this 'don't let's change a winning team' when it suits our argument.

Two cliches appeared often on this board recently 'In Wilder we Trust' and 'Let's just enjoy the Journey.'

What we really mean is let's only trust him and let's only enjoy the journey when we're winning.

Empty words. Time people grew a pair.

Don't think it's that.

After the every other defeat this season, there wasn't much of a reaction.

Cardiff/Boro, early days and we were expecting a struggle.
Norwich/Forest - played really well for majority and deserved a point at the least in both games.

Yesterday was entirely different, we've been utterly spoiled with the football we've been watching, champagne stuff. We dropped to the level of QPR (who would have said that 16 months ago). It was completely against what we've been doing the last 16 months or so, we let the standards slip. As Wilder has said so himself.

We move on, everyone has one.

I trust Wilder, but at the same time this is the second time he's tinkered with personnel when he didn't really need to - the first time was Forest - and we've lost both times.

The team last night did not include the player who scored our opening goal on Friday (and who is our top scorer) nor the player who provided both assists. I thought, and continue to think, that was a very odd thing to do.

I said as much in another thread before the game and without the benefit of hindsight. Without Duffy our midfield was always going to lack penetration and without Billy our chances of scoring are always going to be diminished.

HOWEVER, we can give CW this one, I prefer to gloss over this game with the 10 games we have won.

I also said the same beforehand - I think a lot of people were of this view.

We've just come up, we're not expected to win every game. The start has been unbelievable, it's been a long time since we were in this division and it has changed, teams will spend more time doing their research on opposing teams.

Also bear in mind the CW hasn't managed at this level before and despite being a hero worshipped by many, even he will make the odd mistake.

It's time to stop talking about next season and reel in the expectation level otherwise fans will start moaning every mis placed pass, especially the ones just returning after missing a season or two. Remember how far we have come in the last 12 months.

Focus on the next game only

Lets sack him eh,i trust him but as soon as we lose he is fucking hopeless and clueless about his players, that is what you are saying

Duff ran himself into the ground v Leeds, and has done so consistently of late. Given he's been a regular 60 or 70 minuter for most of last season and some of this, I'd guess he needed a rest.
That is true but i would always start with the team that won the previous game (bans an injurys excepted),then make changes as the game evolves if one or two are tired, but dont forget our players had an extra days rest compared to QPR.Wilder made the same mistake at Forest.

This forum makes me laugh at times... How many times has Wilder made changes that we didn't expect and it worked out fine (or even better)? I think he has earned for people to just trust him, rather than the empty words that some people have decided to go with.

Wilder knows his team. He doesn't make changes for shits and giggles.

We had arguably our best midfielder out, away at a physical team.

We set out to compete with their physicality with the strike force and midfield we chose, this took away from our usual game. It didn't work. Lessons learnt.

It looked and smelled like a shithouse game before a ball was kicked, and it was well and truly a shithouse game.

In Wilder we trust,as long as we win, change the team and we win,he is a genius, lose and he doesn't know what he is doing, you are spot on with your post

Second time he's changed a winning team and we've lost, stick with the same team and change it if they get tired, not the other way round, taking Duffy and Sharp out after the Leeds game and that performance whilst missing Fleck i feel was a mistake, don't change a team whilst they're flying, we had an extra day recovery to them, we shouldn't be tired.

What about the times we've changed the team and won?

If we'd not changed a winning team and still lost yesterday, I'm sure people would have said we needed to freshen it up.

We've changed winning teams on numerous occasions and still won.
How many times have people said that after a win already then?

No, I didn't say that. Can't you read?

Jesus wept. You'll be calling me a pig lover again next.

Fuck me, where did that post come from?

Sack him? Fucking hopeless? Clueless?

No-one has said it, anywhere! Unless you can prove it with a quote or two?

In Wilder we trust,as long as we win, otherwise he can fuck right off, that is what some are saying, whether they care to admit or not

..that we need to freshen it up.

I said if we'd not changed the team and still lost, people would have said that we should have freshened it up. It's the nature of the beast.

A few people definitely said we'd freshen it up last night, myself included. I just didn't expect the changes he did make. I thought it would be Donaldson and Brooks for Clarke and Sharp with Lundstram in for Fleck.
