Manager needs to leave now

We’ve just played Everton as the worst team ever and they were only marginally better than us. They’re chasing the champions league this season.

so with that in mind, how would getting rid of Wilder improve the situation and who is the right man to take us forward.

To counter that, we have only two points this season. The team who were “marginally better than us” have a not insubstantial 27 points more than us. They “did enough” and we didn’t make it particularly difficult for them. We have lost thirteen out of fifteen games and drawn the other two. We have won none. With that in mind, how could getting rid of Wilder worsen the situation?

People keep pointing out how brilliantly he has done in the past. He has, there is no arguing against that and I’ve loved every single minute of it. I mean really, really enjoyed it. But I’ve done well at work this year. So do I think I can perform absolutely appallingly next year, making the same mistakes over and over again and my employer should just let it slide because I might come good again? Nope.

Yes perhaps, but I really can't see a Wilder struggling in the Championship. We'd be up there
Hopefully you’re right.
However, that is assuming Wilder can shrug off this dreadful situation he is in and the god awful mess and football his team is serving up.
No reason to think he can just shrug what is happening off and come out if this unscathed.

Those electric lamps in the rain > Dangerous ?

Chris needs to keep his chin up and it can't be easy for him right now, but we need to change and quick. Forget this season, it's gone, but he and AK can shape next season already to make us competitive, we need mobility in midfield and at the back. We won't loose many players (Berge will go) but with an few additions and maybe some of the kids coming in, we can make a go of it? (the owner needs to look to sell if we do get back up, not required for a prem club).

Brilliant ride but the ride has finished. The recruitment (at a very significant cost) since promotion has been abysmal.
No way Jose ... he stays and we bounce back ... the last time you saw CW and the lads we were 6th with a game in hand ............. Don't count this #Covid nonsense as a season ..... if Wilder goes - Nigel Pearson comes in #Fact

I can't dislike this post enough.
4th division were dark times.
Listening to the Hull game hoping we'd go up on goal difference.
The Deane and Fjortoft saga
The 3rd division for more years than I care to remember.
I've lived through so much United related shit since 1971
Wilder can take us back to the 4th tier and still be God in my opinion.
Fking Judas's on here need a lobotomy but they've probably had one anyway.
I seldom post on here these days it's toxic. I used to dread being banned from this site because it was full of good, knowledgeable Blades, understanding supporters who knew what real lows in football were.
Now it's plagued by expectant, pompous, unrealistic so called supporters.
I don't care how long you've been a Blade.
But attacking a man who has been the best thing to happen to this club since Dave Bassett grabbed our collar and hauled us up two tiers.
Tells me you don't deserve success.
Well fuckin said sir! UTB!

Whether you want Wilder to be sacked or you want him to stay and spend more money.....I afraid it’s much too late to do either. We are fucked.

Norwich didn’t waste £150 million quid though did they?

They didn't have ageing players like Fleck, Sharp, Mcgoldrick, Norwood etc, who have ever been good enough for Premier League level in their careers, let alone in the next 5 years.

Norwich did their building in the Championship, and weren't bothered about going back down.

Wilder has overachieved, and is now having to put together his young squad at a level where they're out of their depth.

It would have to be a massive fucking bounce. No way Wilder turns this around next season into a promotion campaign. Just isn’t going to happen.

Absolutley NO chance of us coming straight back up with the squad rebuilding that is required. Unless we sack CW and his entire backroom team & bring in some fresh ideas.

And if you were the chairman would you trust CW with that job & £?

For example our midfield is fucked. Who would we keep? hes absolutely Squandered the EPL funds.

The players, almost to a one, are playing their worst football.

I do believe they couldnt be more motivated, i dont believe they can string more than 2 passes together. Neither do they tbh.

I keep hearing systems, etc. But have you seen our players at the minute? Basic football seems hard, thats not a system thing is it.

Theres only so much a manager can do imo, and while there have been mistakes from him, the players are letting us down in terms of quality. Its as simple as that really.

Beef stock.
Chicken stock.
Laughing Stock.

Wilder doesn't believe in sentimentality but you lot do.

You don’t have the answer do you? I answered your question in my original post in this thread but you haven’t once answered mine.

by getting rid of Wilder you’re effectively tearing up four years work, a long term plan and vision, getting rid of a manager who is clearly motivating a championship squad that is just not good enough. If you’re going to do that, you at least need a solution that is better than that.

So now it’s your turn, who do we get and how would it improve this current situation?

All the opponents know they can just wait, bide their time. They know we won't score, so know they just need to be patient to score
When it rains it pours. Hopefully we can sign an experienced Premier League quality LCB on loan in January. Preferably one who still has legs attached to his body unlike Jags.

The Prince has already said that Wilder is staying even if we get relegated. Calling for him to be sacked is pointless.

If the club and CW part company, a realistic replacement to make a fight of it is Nigel Pearson. He's got a good track record at Leicester and Watford.

Not an option for me, I'd rather stick with CW.

I think this season is gone, but we need to do some serious manoeuvres in January to freshen up the squad, get some belief for the remainder of the season and build for next in the Championship.

We have 23 games left. We need 3 wins and a draw which gets us to 12 points. That's really all I'm bothered about at the moment. Beating Derby's record is all I care about to protect CWAKs legacy and the 4 great years we have had. I don't, and they won't, want to be remembered for this abomination of a season, so relegation fine, but not with the worst points total in history.

Trade like mad in January, and the Prince needs to back him. Move out the dead wood, and loan out the ones who aren't good enough this season but who will be perfect for next season back in the Championship.

I thought the interview after the game was shocking from Wilder, we can all see the players are struggling we don't need Chris to tell us that. I would like to know what he plans to do to change things? At the moment you have to ask does he have a clue how to change things, it seems like he doesn't and if that is the case then how do you argue he is the best man to get us back up next season. Sorry to say but it is getting harder with each game that passes to defend Chris Wilder and his time at the club could be coming to an end.
Wilder likes to have control of all aspects of the club he is manager for but is being manager of a club the size of Sheffield United too much for one man as Mickey Adams found out and admitted years ago. It might be all well and good in the lower leagues but not at the big clubs especially when in the Premier League. Wilder has had total control for over 4 seasons now has he suffered from burn out? Maybe put him on gardening leave or something we really do need to have a rethink doing the same every week is not working and is turning the whole lot into a squad of losers with a losing mentality something that can take years to get out of as we know only too well. There are as many good arguments to make a change as there are to keep faith in Chris at the moment, you are only as good as your last game and yesterday was a shocker.

The squad will need a big overhaul. This group of players are too used to losing games now. It’s a force of habit for them.

Can’t see them getting out of this mentality easily, so it will linger on into next season.

A group of fresh group of players to work with might give Wilder his mojo back again too.

Wilder and the players have torn up the post League one good work with their performances this season.

Be careful what you wish for (circlings aren‘t my suggestions btw! - this is from a Chelsea thread who seem to want Lampard out)

Freshen up!!!! He has had the opportunity to freshen up the team all season, we could all see the alarm bells ringing when we lost the last three games of last season when our luck had run out!
I don't want to replace Wilder I want him to shrug off his stubborn approach to management. McBurnie is not the answer yet he persists in playing him, the long punt approach is shit, no team has ever been successful with it in the premier league, he persists in using it, his substitutions are inept, Norwood cost us again, he has players who make an impression (Bogle) but yet again they are not given another chance.
He needs to take a long look at himself and not be scared to try new things including the players, the system and certainly his advisors!

Chris has been here since May 2016. We have enjoyed 4 years of success with him. These past 7/8 months have been bad but I’m judging him on everything he has done. He’s got us where we are.
He’s a Blade, he will be hurting as much as everyone else is but to just get rid of a manager who has done more than anyone since Dave Bassett is madness.
The grass won’t be greener if he’s replaced. I can’t think of any manager who would come to this club right now. If anyone did come, they wouldn’t be as passionate as Chris is.
Chris should stay as long as he wants.
I blame the players for what’s happening. Not Chris.

I don’t think binning Wilder is the answer. However he really needs to stop being stubborn. I do have another theory that his approach is a bit of message to the board to say that we need more investment if we’re to move forward. There is no manager out there realistically that I’d rather have than CW but there needs to be some big changes before I see us winning games and that will only happen in the summer

I'm genuinely unsure whether CW going would be for the best (or not). My worry is that this rotten run, will leave a heavy cloud over next season (in the Championship). However, I dont subscribe to the view that CW cannot be blamed for what's happening this season. This season is the result of a collective failure of 1) The players, putting in poor performances, poor decisions on the pitch and awful mistake and 2) The manager for his poor signings, poor tactics, subsitutions etc

Arguably one can add the board to that, for not being prepared to pay higher wages for the likes of Cash etc. However, it is hard to be overly critical of them when CW has spent around £150m.

Debating on twitter last night, some still dont think CW should be questioned/blamed at all, which is bizarre (when in the same breath they are tweeting about poor substitutions etc). He is part responsible.

Irrespective of your view on the manager, the major issue looming for me is the hangover of this season if it doesn't improve.

Going down is one thing. I've said for years our aim without significant investment should be a West Brom. Yo yo club.

To do that you either have stability or very good recruitment.

The biggest concern for me now is not relegation itself, which logically is absolutely inevitable, but the manner of it.

Going down in embarrassing style could be damaging. I think those who think come next summer everything will suddenly be hunky dory again are utterly deluded.

I will feel as sad as at any time in my 40 years following this club when Wilder leaves but a tipping point is close if these results continue.

I don’t have the answer because I’m not a saddo who sits all day scouring the football world for up and coming managers, or ones that are achieving great things that are within our reach. Thankfully I don’t need to do this just because somebody on an Internet forum doesn’t like me believing we need a change of manager. I’m not on the recruitment panel down at the Lane, you see 🙂.

What I do do though is watch all of our games. Nothing spectacular, but it has enabled me to see that what we are getting, and have been getting for a number of months now, is so far from good enough that something needs to change. If Wilder was showing even the slightest inkling that he knew how to arrest our sudden and catastrophic decline, I’d think there was a case to keep him. He hasn’t. There’s been no improvement for too long now and he comes across in his interviews, and his approach to games, as though he hasn’t the first idea where to start in sorting all of this out. Piss poor performances, strange team selection and bewildering substitutions all point towards somebody out of ideas and out of their depth. This is the here and now, and the here and now points to a bleak future.

Unfortunately, him hurting as much as us isn’t getting results, and won’t get results. Just because a few people on an internet forum can’t think of a better alternative, doesn’t mean there isn’t one out there. Our club are in a position to invest a lot of money in finding somebody to do a better job. I’d like to think they could do that.

I don’t see how you can solely blame the players, but absolve the man who signed them, picks them, trains them and instructs them before, during and after matches, of any responsibility, just because he’s hurting too.

You can blame the players for exactly the reasons you have given! Chris is giving the same instructions, same training, same man management that he has done since 2016 and he’s been very successful. So if he’s doing the same thing, the only people who aren’t, are the players.
