A few stories surfacing atm about NA and his skill set. Interesting to see how much difference there is already between the two hierarchies, NA and NC. To my mind NA's approach is much more adult and cerebral, does that mean the same be demanded of the squad ? Can only be a good thing IMHO. Watsthasay ?

All will revealed after the first game , then 10 games into the season , then christmas , then easter , then the last game of the season.

I can't make any judgement of either man's management skills or approach based on soundbites, rumours and twatter half truths.

The only thing that really matters is the performance through the season. If we are promoted at the end with pretty much the same squad then you can say that NA's approach worked better with THAT set of players.

Everything else is just pure speculative bollocks.

I remember when Clough came in and many on here, me included were very impressed with the way Clough talked to and handled the media. His interviews towards the end of his tenure included rants, sarcastic responses and public slagging of his players.

We will only see the true colours of Adkins if/when the going gets tough.

Says it all really' :-

'Although Adkins has tactfully refused to be drawn on the reign of his predecessor, the 50-year-old’s brief, as instructed by United’s board of directors, includes establishing better relationships between the coaching and playing staff.

Bramall Lane’s hierarchy, which dispensed with Nigel Clough’s services soon after May’s play-off semi-final defeat, are known to have grown concerned by what they perceived as the former England international’s increasingly dictatorial approach en route to the double-header against Swindon Town.'

It would appear that the 'hierarchy' were fed up with None Stick Nigel.

A breath of fresh air is new NA who appears to want to manage using skills based on this century rather than the pre-cambrian!

Talking to players, telling them what he expects, finding out what makes them tick, their hopes, aspirations, strengths etc. He has been handed a team. A good manager gets the best out of his team. I know I am stating the 'bleedin' obvious but some managers techniques appear rooted in the past.

I think each year we stay in this league the job becomes harder as we put more pressure on to get promoted. I'm not having a dig at the supporters, it's natural we're going to feel that way.
Perhaps Cloughie didn't appreciate this at first and then when it hit him, he couldn't cope. I recall reading somewhere that he admitted L1 was harder than he expected it to be.
I guess Adkins was in a similar situation with Southampton as it had been made clear when they sacked Pardew they weren't prepared to hang around in L1 for long. Hopefully his cheery demeanour and his positive outlook gives him the resilience needed to successfully negotiate our way back into the Championship. There's a lot to be said for PMA and the benefits of experience.
My only fear is what if he doesn't succeed? Then what?

NA said last night that they had set up a players' "leaders group" of six and both Collins and McEveley are in it because they are senior men and had been model pros in training; players who NA asks younger players to watch and copy their training routines.

The "leaders group" has been used by NA, AC and DW over the years and acts as a link between the squad and management. I suppose it's a "council" for players to approach with ideas and concerns with the opportunity to have their topics discussed with management without any fear or chance of recrimination.

What a great practice and I am sure Collins will be delighted to be quoted as a "role model" after the past year.

Who do we think the other four in the gang of six are? Maybe Howard, Brayford, Basham and Coutts?
What happens if we sign a new club captain and 2 or 3 other key, experienced players?
Do we end up with a leaders group of 10 or do a couple of the current six get quietly demoted?

Collins:- Och Aye Bray and Bash. Where are you two off to?
Bash:- Oh nowhere really. We just thought we might pop down to have a quick chat with the gaffer.
Collins:- Hoots Mon. No need for that. We're due to have a leaders group meeting with him soon remember.
Bray:- Ah. Yes. Hmm. About that. The thing is you see...Oh what the hell, why don't you come with us?

Quite a few of Paisley's ex Liverpool players claim the team was almost self-managing, that many issues were dealt with in the dressing room before they even got to the manager; bad attitudes, poor training etc. Players were told by the seniors in no uncertain terms that 'this is not how we do things at this club'.

I think he said the members of the group were fluid.

In such a meeting he can't fully describe the "constitution" of the group but it was received as a great idea.

All we know is that now players will be dropped if they aren't good enough, rather than because they didn't want to hang out with Clough for extra shooting practice

This may confirm what I have been thinking for a while. that we could all be wrong in assuming that Adkins will acquire two new CBs and that he may be planning to resurrect Collins' career. We could certainly have done worse than played him v Swindon. So that might be Collins +1 new CB, with Kennedy (when fit) and McGahey as backup. Thoughts?

On paper it makes sense; been involved in promotion from this league before, apparently did well on loan at Vale, has shown he's ok for us with a decent partner but my gut feeling is wrong move and indicates budgetary constraints.
