I was looking over some old results earlier when I noticed that we haven't scored away at Manchester City since a 3-2 defeat in 1991 (Brian Gayle scored both).

Not too bad you might think but we've played them at their place seven times since then!

1992 Man City 2-0 Blades
1994 Man City 0-0 Blades
1997 Man City 0-0 Blades
1998 Man City 0-0 Blades
1999 Man City 6-0 Blades
2001 Man City 0-0 Blades
2006 Man City 0-0 Blades

I doubt we have a worse such record against any other club.

We’ll get one next season....

The most impressive thing about that sequence of results is that in spite of failing to score any goals we still managed to get 5 points! Also, I note that City only scored in two of those games.

Given that we score different against them with the help of a balloon, they may think we have a curse on them!

It's records like this that keep me awake at night. :)

I went in 1997 ( night match) and to the 1999 aberration ( red hot) and can confirm that on each occasion we were very lucky to get nil.

Didn’t mike ‘zico’ lake score against them at their place in the 90’s?

I went to the one in 2006 and I literally can't remember anything happening.

Must have been the most boring match that season.

I went to the 3-2 defeat and haven’t been there since so, statistically, it’s my fault.

That FA Cup match featured Daniel Sturridge's first ever goal in professional football at the Bramall Lane end.

Kyle Walker also scored his first ever goal in professional football against us in the FA Cup at the Bramall Lane end.

Remember those headers from Gayle in front of us all, that was a good away end. The previous season we got beat 2-0 and that little cockney wanker scored twice and Jones got sent off. Maybe there is a curse!

We won 3-2 there in October 1987 also won 1-0 there in March 1974.

We have not won at Arsenal since August 1971

5 points against the most expensive side in English football and prem champions.....not to shabby.

Was at everyone of those games and tbh with the odd exception, they were largely forgettable as the scorelines suggest.

Here are the last times we scored at the big 6 in the Premier League.

1991 - Manchester City (B. Gayle)
1993 - Manchester United (F. Carr)
1994 - Tottenham (N. Blake)
1994 - Liverpool (J. Flo)
1994 - Chelsea (G. Hodges)
2005 - Arsenal (A. Gray)

Had the misfortune to be sat amongst the City fans at the latter.
I once sat next to a Boro mate when they just got the better of us 6-0 , and a West Ham mate when they edged it 5-0.

Character building apparently.

Gray's penalty was not in a league game - it was the FA Cup. Our last league goal away at Arsenal was scored by Adrian Littlejohn in January 1993 when we escaped with a 1-1 draw at the death..

We led at some point in 4 of those games (the 1993 and 1994 ones) but only won against Liverpool. Spurs and Arsenal were draws and we lost the other 3. Funny, I did not see a lot of away games in that period but I was there for all the 1994 games and also the 1993 Arsenal game.

Gayle scored twice in the City game, and he also scored the first goal in the Spurs game. Flo scored the first in the Chelsea game and both at Anfield.

United's current longest winless away streak, in terms of league games, is 12: we have played 12 league games at Bristol Rovers' various grounds and not won any of them. We have of course beaten them in the FA Cup recently.

In terms of league and cup games combined, I don't know for sure but I suspect our worst current non-winning streak is Arsenal - since we beat them in the league early in 1971-2 we have played them 15 times at Highbury or the Emirates without winning. We've also lost the "void" game in 1999 and an FA Cup semi on neutral ground.

On the bright side, we have won our last 5 away matches against one current Premier League team (Bournemouth), and Portsmouth have gone 25 games (24 League, 1 Cup) since they last won at the Lane. Their last victory was in 1955-6.

Strictly speaking we've only been to their place once and they couldn't breach a defence containing Claude Davis :)

As someone said above, possibly one of the worst games of that season, seem to remember it felt like we were trapped in a concrete bunker.
