Just a few snippets from Mal's interview with Paul Walker from PS.

  • The celebrations will start 2 hours before kick off at 11:25am. (k.o 1:25pm)
  • The club will have a beer tent selling a newly released 125 anniversary beer.
  • Role Show will 50+ players from the 1940's onwards being unveiled on the pitch.
  • The Dinnington Colliery Brass Band will be playing on the day.
  • More limited edition 125th Anniversary products will be on sale over the year.
  • A big pre season friendly in the summer to commemorate our anniversary.
  • Initially 1500 of the anniversary shirts are available.
On Signings.......

  • We want John Brayford to stay however he is a very good player and he is contracted to Cardiff, as well as this is performances with us are going unnoticed and other clubs will now be sniffing around him.
  • Maguire Is fit for Sundays game, he is one card off a ban however he is available.
  • New additions will be arriving in the next 48 hours before the FA Cup game with Charlton, we are in talks with players and are very close.
  • Overall playing cards very close to the chest as to which positions will be arriving.

Interesting on Brayford be a really good permanent signing I think we have a chance as he is enjoying his football. I wonder if any signing will be available sunday or if it is aimed at a possible further push up the league.

Another years loan or permanent i wonder??
think his contract is up in the summer , would be an excellant signing either season long or pemenant , would also I MO, be a clear statement as to the direction our club is going Brayfords signing would just be fan-dabi-dozi as well , now what I mean I I Y B .

It's good to be a Blade right now, the future is optimistic too which makes a real change, belief breeds confidence and we were lacking that big time until Our Nigel started working his magic.

I would love to sign Brayford but I dont think we will have a realisitic chance, Cardiff may well be a Championship club next season and may want to keep him there will also be plenty of Championship clubs looking at him even the ones that get promoted to the Premiership may be interested.
Defender from Derby has been mentioned Kieron Freeman ??? heard it on radio may have got name wrong

I don't think we have much of a chance either, however all signs suggest he won't be playing at Cardiff next season regardless of what division they're in. He never played, and always speaks negatively whilst referring to his time there constantly In the past tense. It 'was' this, or it 'was' that, never 'is' which is odd for a loanee.

Wouldn't be surprised if he was back at derby next season.

I've also heard the freeman rumour is building pace, sounds like a good player according to Notts fans.

The thing with Cardiff they have another manager now if they get relegated Solkjaer may not even be there
So there could be another opening for him there unless its the owner who wants to get rid of Brayford as Im sure I heard him say hed been a waste of money

Brayford is done at Cardiff.

Why do you think there's not even been a whisper of him going back there for his injury to be assessed etc.

I'd put a healthy amount of money that Brayford will be with us next season...

Really? I mean, I hope you're right ofcourse!

I just think the lad is so talented he would be wasted in League 1. From his career point of view only, it would not be wise for him to be playing League 1 football next season at his age and his level of talent. I'd love it, but I think if he has any sense in terms of career progression, he would aim higher than us next year.

Yeah I would. And I know the club are confident.

He's obviously enjoying his football, and you can tell from interview/comments from Brayford that that is a major factor for him. As well as the fact he gets on exceptionally well with NC.

He's been in the wilderness at Cardiff, and now finds himself part of a good squad, playing an integral role, loved by the fans, part of an excellent cup run, and above all (if PO not achieved this year) could be part of a very exciting season in 14/15. The club have even used him to promote the new shirts - daft reasoning I know, but how many loanees are used by the club like that.

Re brayford, why not, there are still a few players not prioritising money and I get the feeling "the beard" is one of those that want to play football and enjoy it as he seems clearly to be with the blades, coady too I can't remember any loans we have had prior to this batch Harris included that have shown so much commitment to a team they are on loan with, so much so I think most blades forget they are loan players, they all seem to love playing for mr clough and that may just swing a deal for some if not all of them, add to that the promise of what looks like an exciting season next term (regardless of if we make playoffs) and you have a very inticing package for fringe players and young players from other clubs.
I'd like to believe given a decent basic and promotion bonus's deals could be made for a couple if not all.
Time for the prince and mr mcCabe to show the fans they mean business and send a message to other teams We are on our way back to where we all think we belong

I thought exactly the same when I saw the 125 Shirt promotion piece, never usually happens with a loanee. If he started at Burton, perhaps that has given him a good grounding and appreciates being well thought of in a winning side over the trappings of getting paid £15k a week.
Remember how much we offered KMac to stay earlier this season, I think the board could pay him a lot to stay

Brayford has his own S2 4SU t-shirt. Who wouldn't want to stay at a club that does that for you?

I do indeed mate. I think it was either Beattie or Evans that were paid a huge wedge when they were here, so it's not beyond the realm of possibility that we can repeat this, especially as Brayford would be such a significant signing for a number of obvious reasons. The ball is squarely in Cardiff's court at the moment, but given the totally unique take their chairman has on most things, we can only hope that his recent comments about Brayford being a poor signing will be translated into the player being off-loaded as quickly as the first decent offer comes in. My one question surrounds the player himself. I know the on-pitch displays have been excellent, but Brayford will have much to consider, so we're really in the lap of the gods regarding where he see's his future, over to you Cloughie, time for your powers of persuasion to be put to the test.

Here comes the handbrake.........

Whilst agreeing 100% withthe idea of The Beard being one of ours, I can't help thinking of the parallels with Jon Harley. On loan, from a higher division he also looked a class above everyone else on the pitch and was also very public in how much he enjoyed playing for us. We did, eventually, get our man, but pretty soon (whilst still being a good player) his performances pretty much normalised to those of his team mates and never quite replicated his loan form.

Want him, want him very much, but don't want to see him over-burdened with expectation, just enjoying the now really.

Good observation raul, and all part of the risk I suppose. You just never know. Look at Torres at Chelsea, £50 million and never able to repeat his L'pool form. I know what you mean about over-burdening a player, but I guess that happens regardless. I recall Harley before coming to the Blades, a good, good player, but not as good as Brayford. Is he worth the risk? Yes, as he'd be a crucial part of the jigsaw intended to get us out of this crap-hole of a division......I look at those around him and wonder if the raising of the defence's game is in no small part due to his influence? Of course it's not that simple, but what a difference he's made, and you clearly appreciate the quality the guy brings to us.

Not saying Harley wasn't a good pro for us as he was good quality when he pulled on the red and white but Brayford seems to be a lot more tough, mentally. Clough and Garner know him very well and recognise the strength of character in him so I don't see him drifting into a comfort zone of any kind if he does sign permanently.

IF and I mean IF he can exert his influence and be part of a team that reaches the play offs and we eventually do the unthinkable and get up this season (still possible however improbable) I believe it will be a no brainier and he will sign permanently. If we are still 3rd division bobbar then I can see him being loaned out to a champ side next season and we will attempt to sign him the year after IF we get up in 2015

The thread title makes me want a bag of roast beef and mustard flavour. Damn they're tasty.

Doesn't that two word description just about sum up how misleading journalist's can be? 'Cardiff flop'...??? I think John was given a couple of games at most to prove he was worth a place in their team, so hardly a ringing endorsement about the way Cardiff assess players, and all this after they paid £1.5 million for him. As for the journalistic comment, it just goes to show how misleading a few words can be. If Brayford's a flop can we have a few more please?

Think the major difference to things that have gone before is the captain of the ship , ( no not popeye ) Mr Clough , don't think he will tolerate a lack of fight and desire in his players ,has anybody noticed since the question was asked after Crewe , were there any injuries , the utter contempt in Mr Clough's voice at the teams performance , think he lays it on the line like any good manager , play well , work hard and I'll back you 100 % shirk in any way and your fucked , also think the players were warned in no uncertain manner what is expected , both on the pitch and in training after that horror show .
We're are shandy , westlake , king ( twat ) , williamson now , also certain members of our squad are coming near the end of there contracts , and the up turn in there performances has been staggering , hope Mr Clough can see through that as a way to getting a new contract .
I finally think we have a manager we as fans , and the club as a whole can be proud of , early days its true but you can see how everyone is up for it .His loan sigings Payntor apart have been excellant , were crying out for striker but with the players that will be let go over summer , think he knows who he wants and will get them .
Sorry I'm running ahead of myself but for the first time in a long time , I'm happy as a fan of our club and I think the future looks bright , so much so that if Mr Clough brings in the people he wants over the summer , think it will be a good season next year to be a Blade .

dublin 10 blade, I get the feeling that you're quite well disposed to a certain Mr Clough ;).......and who can blame you for feeling that way mate? As you so correctly say, if anyone has influenced our fortunes it's our manager. Obvious some might say, that's what he's paid to do, but if only it were that simple?

Our manager has shown he's unafraid to crack the whip. As you say dublin, the Crewe game was a turning point, pivotal you might think, and since then I think we've discovered a backbone and camaraderie that seems to have come from nowhere. Remarkable really, but maybe it was the Crewe game that made the team take a long, hard look at themselves, and to their credit it worked.

The absence of at least one quality striker is a concern, but as the managerial message has been repeated before, if the quality isn't available we'll wait. That tells me volumes about the type of side we're beginning to see, and the prospect is worth waiting for. UTB
