Like the system, bags of space, plenty of opportunities, lots of passion out there, created plenty of good situations (if not gilt edge chances) - in all very promising today. These lads have yet to gel but look more and more likely as the games go on.

Made the mistake many times before thinking we were the real deal but this time I think it's different. UTB.

The potential is there:

We have a gk

Stronger looking defence. (We have some cb's)

Strength in depth (looking at the bench)

Our weaknesses may hold us back tho:

Lack of goals from midfield

Consistency

Basic errors

I remain optimistic due to our manager

Let's not get carried away.

It was a decent enough performance today, but hardly promotion worthy.
Agreed. The direction of travel is positive throughout the squad - that's the bit we should be positive about.

Great result, decent second half, some promising performance, (Freeman, Lafferty) also some glaring weaknesses (putting the ball in the goal, lack of pace)

A win is always a good feeling but we need to follow it up.

Rocketed up to 17th and talking about a promotion side, wtf? I'm very happy with back to back wins but they (like Oxford) were poor.
Let's just stay positive, passionate and behind the team and manager. Feels like it's building but another away game to come next and let's see we are approaching Christmas.

we looked good, can't help but feel were one player short. A class midfielder like dack and it would make the world of difference. Try and get a decent freebie and if were close in january id like the board to back wilder with a big signing or two.

Lots of encouraging signs today; most importantly was how secure we were at the back. After the early mix-up that allowed McDonald in, we didn't give up another chance. Dack's free kick was good but it can hardly be counted as a chance. Also, though Moore did flap at that cross, I'm going to stick up for him by saying that it was good to see a goalkeeper brave enough to come for a cross further than two yards from his line and he didn't let it bother him. He got away with it and he didn't go to pieces as other United goalkeepers may have done. Defensively, we were solid and it's now a case of tweaking it and developing it rather than it needing major work as it did a couple of weeks back. Wilder's ideas are getting through to the players, there was a lot to admire about us going forward today and - though we still go a big long and aimless at times and the final ball is not often up to scratch - we could have won more comfortably than we did. Developing but IMPROVING and that's the key. Chance to get moving now with Wimbledon (a) and Posh (h) and get back into the Play Off mix which - considering the tough away games we've had to start - will be an OK start.

I'm sorry but either describe us as champions elect or you're a miserable sod.

You can only beat what is in front of you blade56, I know you weren't having a pop at them as such but, it shows how poor this league is. Gillingham could have gone 2nd today and Oxford won yesterday. Bolton are top and we would have beat them with today's performance on the opening day.

dack won't play higher than div 1 he's one of those players bags of talent but no inner fire ,he's carrying a bag of spuds up his jumper to .hes their Baxter

At times, Gillingham literally walked through us. We were gifted the win by a stupid mistake. Great result, but some right over optimism erupting.

Sensible sod more like.

Nah, we generally feel like we are are going to fail, we all do, it's to be expected from the past 6 years. Today I saw something that changed that persona, I saw a spark that will grow, I see us progressing out of this slum - I have banished the from my mind the dross of yesteryear. It's coming, believe me.

Exactly what I was going to say :)

Hope he is their Baxter, wouldn't mind him being suspended when they come to the Lane for indulging in the bad stuff.

Is there an echo in here?

Yes, talking about promotion is nearly as daft as contemplating a relegation struggle after four games. Not quite though....

Gillingham arnt a poor side tho... They did well last year and have started this season decently enough.

Fwiw I though we made them look ordinary and deserved a win.

Long way to go yet tho. But signs are looking better, we seem to know how we want to play and have shown character to come back twice in successive weeks

We're going to have to be good for promotion this year, Bolton will run away with it surely leaving 2nd place for SUFC
