It`s one of those soulless stadiums, which is actually decent for away fans in terms of view, facilities, and accessibility.
But i much preferred Elm Park, with no roof, crumbling terrace, and low views.

One or two pubs within walking distance made up for all that

I can imagine that appealing to some, the draw in that instance being the opposition rather than Reading. But in terms of what this fan suggested, much like the relationship between the Madejski stadium and Reading station, it’s some distance away.

It seems like another soulless bowl of a ground which I wouldn't want to visit.

I can see why they moved though there as I know they could do fuck all to Elm Park to improve it after the taylor report.

Going in was like like marshalling aircraft round an airport, going out was like trying to get 700 dobermanns into a car boot.

We didn't have any issues? Parked at park n ride at other side of m4 for a 5 min bus journey to stadium. Walked straight in to hotel bar. Couple of Guinness. Watched match. Won. Left ground and jumped on to awaiting buses to park n ride. Drove straight out of car park. Happy days.

Only minor snag was on way back the buses were full of their mob moaning about how bad the ref was & our winner been offside! Clearly forgot their penalty award!

Mind you - I said to my lad if you've been to madjeski you may as well tick off Derby, Leicester, Boro, Cardiff, Southampton, etc, etc..... same boring design.
That's why so many fans enjoy coming to us, a proper ground with history, close to centre, plenty of watering holes, character and atmosphere.

There is some logic to this.
Back in the days when Reading were a 3rd/4th Division team, quite a few locals supported a big London team (usually Chelsea or Spurs) and Reading. When Reading got a bit of success (on the back of Madejski's money) a load of lifelong die-hard fans suddenly appeared. You'd never see anyone wearing a Reading replica shirt in the town, next minute they're selling them in John Lewis!

They built the stadium next to the motorway for easy access, then "designed" a car park with the crappest access routes in the entire world. So cars trying to get in and out gridlock the whole area.
One of Reading's problems is that there aren't that many major roads through the centre. It only takes a minor incident or lane closure to gridlock the whole town.
