I only wrote him off because he didn't look like the most mobile or had jag's or walkers pace. I've never seen anyone so good in central defence at his age, especially with the ball at his feet

I'm wrong a lot more times than i'm right. I thought Slew was a star in waiting and I though Naughton would play for england. :) Robson was an awful appointment btw. When warnock got us promoted we should have got rid of him, and when we got relegated we should've kept him.

I know that he's not a united player anymore, nor is Walker, but I have great pride in their continued success, as I did with Jagielka. We've produced quality players and failed to keep them. The hardest element of that is the production, now we are on an upward curve, we will hopefully reap their benefit long term on the pitch and not just short term in the bank account.

No, he'd have probably got the same answer. I didn't rate him that highly when he was here. I thought he was a good player, and one that one probably earn a good career at either high champ or low prem. His improvement and evolution as a player, and the speed thereof, has blindsided me.

Agree with this. Thought he was good for us, but didn't think the deal we let him go for was too bad (at the time). I thought he might even struggle going up a division! Shows what I know!

I was gutted when Jagielka left, and wasn't best pleased when we sold Walker (even though he only played a handful of games for us), but happy to admit I misjudged just how good Harry would become.

I guess part of it was playing in League One? It's perhaps difficult to judge how high a player's ceiling is when you're not facing big clubs with known names week in/week out? (that's my excuse anyway).

Agreed. He also read the game well. I also thought his mobility would hinder his career. Saying that, I don't know who advises him (dad?) but he's made the right move to the right club at the right time.

If England go down the route of a back 3, he'll play well in the central role, with either stones/gomez on his right and possibly mawson/gibson on his left. The way he can carry the ball out of defence is continental-esque. He reminds me of a defender's version of harry kane. He appears grounded, without ego, plays without fuss, wants to learn and visibly improves. A old school new school player.

Watched him a few times on Sky and he looks really good, well timed tackles, his reading of the game and bringing the ball out from the back all look to be even better than we had him even though he's stepped up the leagues. Watched the interview on Sheffield Live and he seems to be grounded too, still a Blade!

I rate him higher than Stones and think City will go for him at some stage

If he makes the WC squad and gets some minutes on the pitch, I suspect that he'll have a number of offers in the summer. I'm not suggesting he's top table quality just yet, but all the major teams in europe have at least one aged CB's (except Man Utd) and an international quality ball playing mobile 24yr CB will be in high demand and they'll be a shuffle round of players that he'll benefit from. I reckon Chelsea & City will be looking at him closely.

I'm thrilled for big Harry. My boss at work is a friend of the family and his son is one of Harry's mates (and his brothers, Joe and Laurence). He's very grounded, very close family, still has the same group of friends he had from school and is actually one of the quietest in the group. He actually chose Leicester over Spurs because hi long term girlfriend had just started a new job in Sheffield and he didn't want to be too far away.

From a playing point of view, there's no doubt that he's developed into a class act. Might not have much pace but like most really good players (McGrath anyone?) makes up for it by reading the game and positioning.

I know his girlfriend.

I can confirm that she IS all that :)

Always thought his pace was deceptive. He's always looked so clumsy and cumbersome for a player that was quite classy on the ball and I don't remember anyone off the top of my head who tore him apart with pace (it was League One though...).

Not surprised to see him make it in the Premiership, though I really didn't expect him to do as well as he's doing. I thought bottom of the Prem for a few seasons or getting promoted from the Championship with a few teams would be his limit.

When he left us at 21yrs old, he'd got nearly 140 appearances for us, which is one hell of an education, and probably unheard of. In that time he would have played against clayton, leon, madine, assombalonga, callum wilson, sam baldock, will grigg, rhodes, wright-phillips & brett pitman. By no means mugs. I remember in 2011/12 seeing him dealing with Patrick Agyemang better and better (3 times i think).

Jordan Stewart was on par but Hill has it for me just ahead of him and Marcus Williams ,he couldn't even throw it straight. He got away with a lot for being a nice guy ,but what a truly fucking awful footballer.
Hill benefitted from not being quite as bad as Williams. Hill, tbf, could at least read the game.

Those names send a chill down my spine. I was once talking with a well known figure in the game, and he was of the view that if you didn't make it into the professional game, it was down to nothing other than not being good enough. There were plenty of scouts out there to spot you and that was that.

Anyone on here who has either played to a decent level or watched amateur football at a decent level, must be gobsmacked at the utter crap we've had on our books, when they've witnessed the quality of some lads that don't make it. We've had some rubbish, not even players that split opinion, just god damn awful players. Players who in some instances have left us in the 3rd tier of English football and couldn't find anyone else to employ them in the professional game anywhere else in the world.

At least 2 of the above are millionaires ,all are very wealthy men who have stolen a living. In my opinion of course. As for Collins ,loaded and playing football in Florida for a living , amazing.

Reminds me of a particularly disappointing encounter I had with a former student...

'sir you know you support Sheff United, well my uncle plays for them'
'Oh aye, and who is he?'
'Marcus Williams'
'Oh' [end of conversation]

Although having seen said student playing football, I shouldn't have been surprised...

Not wishing to single out Marcus Williams, but within 18 months of leaving us he was playing for Kerala Blasters in India. I'd hazard a guess that a rapidly assembled 11 off here would give them a decent game.
