Would you start him on wednesday night v Brum ? Think I would as at away matches he gives us that outlet when we are under pressure
Maybe Hogan to start as well ?

When we start Madine, we have a tendency to play slightly more negative football. I'd sooner we went with a front two of Sharp and Didsy with Duffy just in behind. Didsy had a cracking game against Preston. His game has come on leaps and bounds this year, which says a lot for a bloke his age to keep learning and adapting like that. Not only in terms of finishing, where he said he's learned from Billy, but also his hold up play and aerial ability. I've got zero issues with him being an outlet if necessary.

Madine and Hogan are a brilliant pair of strikers to have in reserve depending on how the game progresses.

Wilder's rotated a lot and it's not cost us once. So I wouldn't be surprised to see changes up front on Wednesday.

I'd be tempted to go with the front 3 I've touted previously - McGoldrick behind Sharp and Madine. Duffy and Dowell haven't pulled any trees up for a while. McGoldrick is the one on best form. Madine will be fresh and raring to go.

Might sound crazy but I'm going with what Wilder decides.
That said anyone starting Madine and Hogan which means dropping the 2 guys responsible for the goals that have us on the brink of promotion to the Prem should probably stick to origami.

I do hope this is even a little bit right :).

Can see him being more of a nuisance against Millwall at home considering their physical and set piece threat.

If fit stick with Billy/Didsy against Brum.

Agree with this.

I reckon Wilder will plan to give Madine the last 20 minutes against Birmingham but start him against Millwall.

Play your best 11 for every game now for me and if it's not working then bring on subs and change it up

See your point, but respectfully disagree, that’s how exhaustion and injuries happen.

Wilder (and virtually every other manager) goes on about it being a squad rotation game.
Of course most players can easily play every week but to be at their best they need careful management with rest.

Also we don’t really have a best strikers, it depends on the opposition and tactics.
For example against Middlesboro at home, Madine was far more effective than either Sharp or McGoldrick.
I’m sure whoever is chosen, then it’s done for excellent valid reasons.

I’d play the same side as at Preston. They’ve now had a full 90 mins together so will know the drill. Alternatively, Cranie in at LCB and Stevens LWB. Duffy to start. That’s assuming JOC won’t be fit based on another thread I’ve seen.

I’m all for managing our older players through the season, but we’ve six games and six wins from the Premier League.

Rotation time is over. The best players start unless they’re injured and they stay on until they’re knackered or it isn’t working (Madine comes on for presence, Hogan for pace).

Sharp and McG are our best (and work best together) so it’s them every game at the moment for me.

It's a tough one ,ideally you'd start Sharp and didsy every week but they have to be managed
Be gutted if one of them picked up a knock so close to the finish line

I just think that they've more or less had 2 weeks off so should more or less be ok for 4 weeks of football , I'd also say we do have best strikers , the one on 20 odd goals and the one with 13 .

Will need some height up front with the big lads Brum employ in defence
Could be a good game for Hogan being ex villa

Im sure Wilder has both plan A and B on the clipboard

Resting Billy now and then keeps the old man fresh and is one hell of a sub to have

McGoldrick gives so much defensively too as well as his guile and subtlety up front
Hes in our top 3 signings with henderson and egan

Totally the opposite for me. Morrison admitted on Talksport that they struggled to get to grips with how we play so playing Madine against them would be fighting fire with fire rather than beating them playing the way they fear the most

We have 5 crucial games in the space of 17 days.

The keeper and the defence (more or less) picks itself (Crainie through his excellence presents some uncertainty). Fleck & Norwood also have to start as, unfortunately, we don’t have understudies who are anywhere near their level at present (it can’t be emphasised enough how crucial it is that these two stay fit for us).

At the top of the pitch, I think most would accept that it’s clear now, after 40 games, that we perform at our best when McGoldrick, Sharp and Duffy are all on-song in the same starting XI.

However, it’s also apparent that Wilder is wise in the knowledge that these 3 are prone to fatigue / knocks - with age and / or injury records working against them in periods of fixture pile ups.

History tells us, therefore, that Wilder will, rightly, try to protect Duffy, McGoldrick and (to a lesser extent) Sharp during this crucial period.

Mark Duffy
I think a sensible way to manage Duffy through this period of games would be to not start him in back-to-back fixtures within a 3 day period.
This means he would start our games at home to Millwall, Forest, Ipswich and start away at Stoke and would drop to the bench for the away fixtures against Birmingham and Hull.
This works nicely given that we’ve had a recent tendency to only use Duffy, if needed, with 25 minutes remaining away from home.

David McGoldrick
I would similarly rest McGoldrick away at Birmingham and bring in Madine to start. He seemingly doesn’t require the same level of protection as Duffy, but Wilder may also consider resting him away at Hull for Madine and at home to Ipswich to give Hogan a run out.

Billy Sharp
I would only consider resting Sharp against Ipswich at home. His leadership skills are too important at this stage of the season and his fitness levels seem to be of a quality that he is able to cope quite well anyway.

In summary, availability permitting, I see us finishing something like this;

Starting Front 3
Birmingham - Dowell, Sharp, Madine
Millwall - Duffy, Sharp, McGoldrick
Forest - Duffy, Sharp, McGoldrick
Hull - Dowell, Sharp, Madine
Ipswich - Duffy, Hogan, Madine
Stoke - Duffy, Sharp, McGoldrick

I agree with you about the line up for Brum. Didsy has not had a break. He played both international matches leading the line on his own & did an enormous amount of running. With Madine suspended CW had no choice but to play him against Brizzle & PNE.
I reckon he goes with Madine up top & Dowell behind (Villa away formation) and Didsy plus Duff get 20 mins & are fresh to start vs Millwall at home.
