I'm sure your are right. Madine is great and all the 'violent psycho' stuff is just agenda driven rubbish.

But it is. Check Madine’s yellow and red card collection and it will be dwarfed by that of Chris ‘The Ripper’ Basham.

Isn’t that because defenders tend to get more cards than forwards over their career though? You could also argue that Madine is a better goal scorer than Basham, because he’s a forward and Basham isn’t, or that Basham makes a nicer brew because he’s got a lower number on his shirt than Madine.

Just a bit of perspective mate. The Machine clearly and obviously isn’t a violent liability. The foul against Brentford was idiotic but it’s far from typical of his performances. Actually he takes a lot of physical stuff from defenders, very often (no doubt frustrating for him) seeing the ref give a foul against him when it should have gone the other way. He picks himself up, goes back for more, and usually gets the better of his man.

He’s a good player who has done well for us. You would think Tufty has enough credit in the bank for Blades to go with him on this one, but some can’t get past the Agenda.

You seem to be making a connection between "on pitch violence" and off pitch violence, implying that Madine can be characterised as a "violent psychopath" despite his fairly good on pitch disciplinary record, due to his violent criminal convictions.

I'm not sure such a link actually exists (I think there's plenty of players who were dirty bastards on the pitch but angels off it, and vice versa) but if it does, like you seem to be implying, what are your opinions of Chris Morgan? Is he a violent psychopath or thug?

Madine was sent off (for violent conduct).


By no stretch of the most febrile imagination is he 'technically skilled'.

Technically, he was sent off for dangerous play- not violent conduct.

Secondly, while he may not be as obviously skilled as a player such as McGoldrick or Duffy, he is "technically skilled" without question. Did you not see his performances against Norwich or Reading?
