Macnulty didn't move well or run enough..

..according to Nigel Clough, so to sort that problem out he replaces him with Higdon???

Can someone explain the logic in that as I can't seem to to work it out?

A guess:

If McNulty was, contrary to plan, staying central, playing with his back to goal and tussling with the centre halves, it could make sense to swap him for a player that has, or should have, the attributes to be effective in such scenarios. It wouldn't bring more movement, but it would give us a player more suited to the way the game had become.

Simply, "Things weren't working for Sparky so I brought on Higdon to try something different".

That's if he did actually think our leading goal scorer wasn't running enough.

When was the last time a lack of running was ever used as a reason to sub a player?

It's getting a bit silly.

McNulty worked hard but it's difficult when the bal is coming to him in the air against Giants...service to him was poor today

Where he fell down was because he failed time and again to work the channels, which Clough was on at him about from early on. Made it easy for their defenders.

Simple. Man management.
McNulty clearly responds to a public foot up his arse.

Don't think he should be slagging him on the radio I really hate it when managers do that. That won't do the lad any good whatsoever.
I'm going to play my bullshit card.
I would be fascinated to understand how many people on here are managers. Seems clear as day to me why you'd make these comments which Cloughs has done consistently.
Net result - McNulty top scorer. How can anyone say it effects the lad negatively.

I think he fell out with the club when he decided to go to a friend's funeral, rather than turning up for training. I don't think we had decided whether to keep him or not when he chose to leave.
Didnt know that. Fell out with Warnock or Robson? Kyle went to Alfreton in 2007 but not sure which month

I'm not sure about mcnulty being a scapegoat but I think some folk are using mcnulty as a way of attacking clough. Away at any of the top 6 in this division you need every player to put a shift in to get a result, I haven't been but if mcnulty could have tried harder then clough is right to call it as he see's it. When he's on it he can be a great asset but we can't afford any passengers. Clough likes mcnulty, he bought him, he plays more often than not, I think it's just a case of clough knowing if he works harder he'll get more out if him.

The only player which will get us out of shit League 1 this season , is if we get that bloke from Melchester Rovers.

And he praised him last week for doing exactly what he wanted from him

It did sound from RS that McNults didn't get much service today, so seems harsh. But if he didn't do what he was supposed to do then perhaps deserves the criticism
So why didn't he criticise the rest of them Swiss, or did they do what they where supposed to do.

Top scorer, Jesus doesn't take much to be our top scorer.

But not in 2007, Metal Blade is hinting that we should have kept him rather than release him to alfreton
Tbf I read MB's comment as meaning that he wasn't good enough for where we were in 2007, but now is described as a "hard defender", this showed how "far we had fallen".

You are right though, no one could have foreseen his career path.

Macnulty says it all...

Reading some of the above, you'd be excused for assuming Clough answered a question "why did you lose today?" with "Marc McNulty". He was specifically asked a fair question on why he subbed McNulty off, and answered it with what sounded like a reasonable answer. Yes, he said McNulty didn't do enough and he wants more from him - and also added he was very good vs Preston. But he also said he's a young player, and you will get a mix of performances from youngsters - hence why he doesn't play every game. And why fans need to understand that. Reading the reaction from those that went, it seems subbing him was a fair enough decision.

If he thought we were good enough with just McNulty he wouldn't have put in 6 months trying to get O'Grady in. I suspect the reason NC gets so frustrated with him is that he wants him to improve, and can see the potential there. Despite today's performance, you would expect Clough to still play him on Wednesday.

Maybe McNulty would have scored if Clough had left him on second half. He is a natural goalscorer.

Clough should try and play 2 strikers in a game that is bound to improve performance and number of goals. He also needs to stop tinkering with the line up. It's so basic.

So apparently McNulty hasn't done enough today? Thanks for recognising that Nige, can you please tell me who the fuck did asked the interviewer.

Were at 0-0 and we take our best striker off,now someone correct me if i'm wrong here but i don't ever see any managers do this very often if ever. How about keep him on,change things to make sure you get the service to your best striker,so that he can put the ball into the back of the net.

All this Cloughy is trying to get the best out of him by berating him is bollocks. Some people are saying he's our top goalscorer because of Cloughs handling of him, that's ridiculous. If this lad would have played more games, guess what,he'd be on more goals with the right service. He's the best finisher we have, and you don't take them sort of players off when you're supposedly going for the top 2 like our manager said earlier in the week. Not that i thought he meant it.
