Did he not get games under Weir? I've always thought that you don't get 'given' chances, you have to earn them. The fact he couldn't force his way into the first team when his competition was Porter speaks volumes.

I have a theory that the Scottish born players that move here expect it to be exactly the same, outside of football, but that it isn't really and therefore they get homesick. I spent seven years living in Scotland and there's something about the place that makes people want to return; this applies whether you are a Scot or not. I can't put my finger on what it is.

I've travelled the world and met many an exiled Scot or several. After a few drinks they always start singing songs about the bonny homeland, in fact every pub in London seems to have at least one of these homesick Caledonians. Strange how the population is shrinking faster than Osborn's poshness and the queue of exiles returning is as massive as our neighbours.

I've watched the games shown on BT and in my opinion, the standard is below L1 , possibly top of the conference, maybe a little better. Obviously that excludes Celtic.

I saw Taylor's goals on Sky and the defending was appalling.

I've watched Scottish football on and off for a number of years and I do think the standard has fallen. As others have pointed out, twenty or thirty years ago the best Scottish players often went into our top league and were still good players, Dalglish, Hanson etc but the top Scottish players now struggle to do well in the Championship. Obviously that's partly to do with the huge lift in standards we've seen in the English leagues.

But if you can do well there, you should do well in League Three or Division B2 or whatever the hell it is we're in these days. Pretty similar standard. Don't think he had the chance to be honest, bizarre decision to loan him out for me. Unless we intend to recall him if he does well, then i can see the logic. If we've shoved him out the door to flog him off then i don't really get it.

Pardon me I'm out of date, so it is growing. It was in decline for most of nineties right up until 2005. Since then it has shown a slight increase. Seems to be an influx of East Europeans accounting for most of that growth though!

Students too, I would have thought. The education system is good - that's the reason I went there and there are plenty of other UK students that head there. Dundee in particular is insane; I can't remember any figures but the population is drastically reduced when the students go home in the summer.

James McCarthy played for Hamilton Accies. They're currently in Scottish Division one. He plays for one of the top teams in England now. By your incredibly flawed logic that must mean Hamilton Accies are on par with Everton then?

yes, it's looked a bit dismal since the 'golden generation'. There's a few prospects like Zaha, Wilshire, Sterling and Barkley but they're yet to do it on the world stage. Sturridge is looking pretty good.
