I think Stevens is more than good enough to start every game but say if he's injured or faces suspension do you think Lafferty is good enough? Think we need more depth in this position, so who do you think could give enda some competition?

Lafferty? Lord no.

He's not that bad Tyler. He's not my favourite player but he's fine as a back up. If Stevens got injured for the season then I'd say moving JOC out there would be the best bet and re-instate Jake Wright. Since we appear to have a limited budget, I think our loans or permanent transfers need to go on areas where we really need reinforcement - up front and center mid.

Nathan Thomas is training to convert to the position.

Is that where he's being playing for the under 23's? I thought that Thomas was brought in as an attacking player, who was to eventually challenge for the Duffy role. Obviously Brooks will at some point leave and Duffy is 32, so Thomas is one for the future?

I would definitely be on board with switching JOC and having Wright back in the middle if push came to shove.

Stevens needs dropping for a game or two to give Lafferty a run out. Enda has been crap lately anyway so needs a polite reminder that the shirt isn't his regardless of performances, and if Lafferty isn't up to it, we should find out while the window is open. Since we've barely used Lafferty there, and have O'Connell and Thomas (and Freeman when fit) who can cover, more depth would be pointless.

To be fair, I think we need cover in RWB/LWB, MID, and a Striker. Let Lavery and Hanson go, Leonard in, Carruthers out.
Should see us through shouldn't it??

If we want a chance at promotion this season then another good attacking LWB is needed to make Stevens get back to his earlier form plus another 3 players, if we want to consolidate in this division then the board will leave that position of Lafferty as adequate cover and bring just one midfielder in. Now let’s see what happens all the way through January, interesting decisions await.

Tony Gallacher (Falkirk) amongst others has again been mentioned this morning.
Now that Carlos is involved at Swansea City, their interest may be cooling.
What sort of player is he, Lydon?

I'll add a few links....

The question most likely to be made is, 'Is he ready to go straight into challenging for a first team place, or is he bought as a prospect with making United some money in the future?' ....

Maybe he's both?

I'm not sure if he's the only Scottish based player we're looking at too.... But i'm NO ITK...

I think we should play Lafferty against Bolton. Don't want both wing backs playing twice in 3 days, especially with the next game being a tough one at Derby.

Joe Riley on loan would be a smart signing. Can cover wing back on both sides very comfortably. The wing backs are integral to us and I don't feel comfortable only having Baldock and Freeman for the right side.

Lafferty ain’t championship level. Think Stevens hasn’t been as good as he was in the early stages of the season.
What about moving JOC to lwb and then Bash or Wright into the back 3

I think that Stevens has been decidedly average of late and I’m surprised that Lafferty hasn’t been given more of a chance. We all talk about how well Stevens gets forward but for me Lafferty was actually more of a threat in front of goal last season than Stevens has been. It’s a different division of course but Lafferty is unfairly castigated. He’s not a bad player.

Not had a chance at championship level with us. Did at Burnley and did well
What do you mean by that? You get chances by showing up at training and impressing the manager. If you don't do that you dont get games. If Wilder thinks Lafferty isn't good enough even when enda is on an average run of form then it's obvious he's not good enough. When people say "he hasn't had a chance yet" is just daft, hes had a chance since the start of the season to earn his position.

Stevens has been bang average for weeks.
There's a difference between an average player and having a bad form. He's certainly better than Lafferty. If anything that just backs up my case. The main reason Fleck and Coutts were showing up were because the likes of Lundstram and Carruthers were breathing down their necks. If we have a better quality LWB then surely it's a better incentive for enda to fight for his place and play at his best?

Some people really have no concept of loyality do they?

He's done well for us in the past and is an international, plus hasnt been given a chance yet due to Stevens.

More then likely the same people who moaned when we signed Sharp back and appearntly he was past it
