Luton Players

We’ve more than enough “back-up” players already.
When the season ends, we'll be short at CB, RB and on the wings. Who knows who else will leave or get injured, necessitating signings.

Hard to judge him for his performances this season, as Luton have been utterly bizarre in just how bad they've been. Adebayo may not have been superb, but it's not as if he's singlehandedly relegated them.

He's got attributes that our other forwards don't have. Wouldn't necessarily be my first choice, but I wouldn't be unhappy if we were to bring him in.

I'd really like us to go after Doughty though. His level of creative output, in a team which realistically has been mid-level Championship at best, has been absurd. Him in a stronger squad would be so appealing.

Millwall looking to bring in Alfie Doughty.
Good player.

Surprised Carlton Morris didn't end up somewhere better than Derby too.

I think they're strong favourites to come back up. Done some great work in the transfer market.

Alfie Doughty crossing to Ivanovic will be an absolute cheat code for them if this come off.

Would still love Doughty. He's a chance creating monster at this level.

I was looking at their business on the transfer market website and just found out we paid around £10m for McGuinness! Nearly spat my coffee out over my laptop. Cannon looks a snip at the price we paid now.

I think Transfermarket got this wrong thankfully. The fee was undisclosed, but the murmurs were in the area of £5m (still not a great deal).

I hope so, although it would make sense as Luton paid about that much for him the year before.

I've gone over this elsewhere ...

Luton paid a fee "rising to £10m" for McGuinness which transpired to actually be around £5m*. We took him off their hands without an accounting loss so probably paid somewhere in the region of £3.5m-£4m

*the £10m came from Cardiff trying to appease their fans. It was £4m up front, £1m at 25 and 50 league appearances, £2m if Luton got promoted back to the PL and a sell on fee. Very similar to Bournemouth putting out there that we paid £10m for Mousset (we didn't, we paid about half) and £18.5m for Ramsdale (we didn't, we paid £12.6m).
Don't get me wrong, £3.75m is still far too much for a limited player but at least it's not 3x that. The interesting one will be, for me at least, what we paid for Tanganga. Rumoured to have a low-ball release fee for top flight clubs but exactly how much more did we pay for him?
