If other Prem managers were watching tonight and were thinking of taking a punt on Lundstram surely they'll think again? Lundstram is not the player you want when the chips are down and you're in a scrap. His attitude is abysmal. On top of his limitations as a player. He could maybe do a job but with an attitude like his, why would you bother signing him? The one thing I'm looking forward to next season is no more Lundstram.

This just in....Lundstrum agrees new contract. Aaaargh! Ok, be honest, anyone's heart just skip a beat?! Muh-hah-hah-hah....😈
This for me is worse case scenario and you could imagine it happening. Like most of the team they are just wishing the season to end. I suspect many are already on their way. Probably a fair few to championship teams !

I just don`t understand Lundstram`s attitude.

He doesn`t look like a player trying to impress scouts and get a good move.

The only explanation I can think of is that he has a good move already nailed on, and therefore feels no need to make an effort.

As for repeatedly being picked as a starter in the matchday squad, I think I understand rocket science better than that.

All boils down to how poor our recruitment was that we didn't sign a recognised midfielder in the summer and have been stuck with a bloke who in any other team would be out on loan or playing in the reserves.

Fleck and Norwood shouldn't be anywhere near the team either based on their efforts this season but again, we've got nobody else because we didn't sign anybody.

Ampadu is neither here nor there, Basham isn't close to being a Premier League midfielder, Besic was sent back to Everton despite being the type of player this team has been crying out for, Osborn hasn't found a permanent home in the team, Freeman was packed off to Forest, Bogle could probably play in Lundstram's position given the chance. Underneath these, its the kids.

It makes no sense at all. But I really hope that new contract has been taken off the table now.

He already has something lined up.

Otherwise he'd be running round like Shergar like he was for the first 20 games last season.

Hell of a player in there, just has the heart the size of a mouse's.

I've honestly never seen this hell of a player, I thought he was average/shit in the championship first season, more shit and average in the promotion season to the point he couldn't get a game, then had a few steady workmanlike performances first half of last season until Berge came n then he gave up. To me he's a more bulked up Monty, better on the ball but a lot less heart.

I've tried to stay fairly neutral on Lunny, but over the last few games I don't think there has been any reason why he should be playing.

His performances have been terrible (not always the worst player, but that's a race to the bottom by a number of them).

PH's comments this week didn't exactly defend him but was very much a throwback to Adkins and the unseen work of Hammond. Talking of numbers/ data, training pitch performances. So yesterday he needed a huge 45 mins to justify his place in the team.

First half i don't think he was the worst player, that was a toss up between Norwood and his misfiring ping and sadly Osborn with his running around but being completely ineffective or at times giving the ball away making his contribution a negative one.

PH changed things a little at half time, Osborn was playing further upfield and as i said elsewhere, it meant he was giving the ball away further up the field rather than in our own half. This seemed to work a little but then, for Lunny, exposed us to possibly the worst pass of the night, giving the ball away to allow Arsenal to score.

For me, that ball from Lunny was enough to end his game for the night. Unforgiveable.

As i say, i don't think Lunny has been the worst player of the season, I'd say that Norwood and Stevens have probably pipped him there, but over the last couple of months his attitude and form have dropped so dramatically that he needs to be taken out of the team.

And finally, as he's leaving, he shouldn't be playing at all. There is now absolutely no reason to play him.

It feels like an absolute fluke that a player we all would have jettisoned at the beginning of last season ended up exceeding all expectations.

However just as the cream always rises to the top, so does the flotsam and jetsam and I think we are now seeing which one old JL7 is.

It gave us somehow a free pass so Christ knows why we didn't go out and get a proper Midfielder to replace him.

Yes, we did buy Berge. But instead of trying to transform Berge into a box to box midfielder that he isn't, why not actually get one of those so we could have replaced Norwood with Berge like the plan clearly should have been?

Nope for all Chris' protestation about money we somehow decided to allocate a portion of 11m on a left back we didn't need (had Osborn, RND already to push Stevens), a striker we can somehow manage to do without for 31 matches and counting, and lavish a gazillion pounds on quite possibly the most expensive goalkeeping recruit we could muster.

The more you look at the summer efforts, Chris, who I love to death for his achievements, has a lot to answer for when you look at the midfield which trapses out week in week out.

Really? Did you see him first half of last season? Palace at home (our first game in the PL) he covered every blade of grass, tackled everything that moved and scored the winner... His form that Autumn was one of the reasons Norwood was protected and his lack of athleticism hidden.

He was never the same after Berge came in, but that first dozen or so games showed that he can do it when he wants to...

Having a few good months playing at premier league level does not make you an established premier league player.

I did see him first half of last season, not as many away games as I would have liked though, maybe he was like Ronaldo in the ones I missed. I agree with you that game against Palace at home was one of his standout games for us in his 3 years and I think he was good against Burnley and Villa from memory in that same period. All I'm saying is in the 3 years I've not seen too much from him to describe him as anything other than an average midfielder who sometimes ran around a lot and put his foot in when he could be arsed. If we are talking about watching and enjoying an individual performances then in the last few years I would say Norwood (not this year), Duffy, Coutts have really made me stand up and take notice - granted at a lower level. Each to their own he's just not my cup of tea.

I do wonder about Lundstram's mobility. It's easy to assume that he's not working because he's lazy or doesn't give a toss. Which makes no sense if he's trying to impress scouts. You'd think he'd still make runs passed the strikers and toss off the less glamorous defensive side. He seems to be playing within himself. Never really getting forward or back. It's strange.

Hey, don't get me wrong, Coutts and Norwood have a much higher place in my lexicon of Blades midfielders and his attitude towards the club means that 5 minutes after he leaves, I'll instantly forget he ever played for us. I'd put him in the same category as Lee Evans and Stefan Scougall.

However, part of being a grown up means that I can recognise when someone has played well and is actually a half decent player, even if I don't really like them. Whisper it, but I watched Mittwoch beat Cardiff and thought they looked decent and if they kept that up, they'd not only stay up, but could have a good year next year...

Lundstram played the first half of last year like a £20m centre midfielder. God know what happened around the time Berge came in, but neither he, Wilder or the club handled this well. Funny that neither of them will be here next season...

Yep, three things really seemed to affect Lunny, just when he was in his (brief) prime....
a) Contract negotiations
b) Berge
c) Lockdown/ Restart

I'll stop short of saying it was unprofessional of him as i don't know him nor do i know if these things were actually impacting his performances, rather they are observations and coincidences if nothing else. However, no escaping the fact that his performances dropped so significantly.

Unless he has a contract set up elsewhere he will end up like Samir Carruthers dropping down the divisions until he hits non league.

I have my own conspiracy theory and its a similar story to one of the lads who was in our bobsleigh team.

He'd spend the summer training like a beast with his own 'nutritional' regime and be an unbelievable talent in testing and for the first few races of the season. Once the season went on and he couldnt train on his own, in his gym, with his nutritional regime he'd steadily get worse through the season. By Christmas he'd be 10kg lighter and pretty average...

Not saying Lundstram spent the previous Summer (where Wilder did mention he'd gone off on his own to work on his fitness) smashing the growth hormone and EPO but his decline has been pretty linear since that point..

Your points are probably much more valid, but (a bit like wilder himself) how this has all ended means his market value will have undoubtedly nosedived. Still think he'll end up as a squad player at a Brighton or Palace and this will probably be his one big contract, but considering how well he started last season, he could potentially have gone even higher....

I actually don't think its something quite as sinister either, but i think we've had discussions previously about training to be at your peak. The lockdown/ restart/ short offseason will really have had a bigger impact on sides with smaller squads and throw injuries in, it also weakens the peak performance of the team.

Lundstram is a big unit, i also think he has to be bang at it every game, perhaps more than someone like Bash or Baldock because any drop off will show more... i probably haven't explained that very well

Unless he has summat lined up, he's a serious injury away from being without a club and without a wage. He's not going to charge around flying into challenges when he needs to stay fit to sign for another club in the summer. The biggest crime is United continuing to play him despite this.
The need to do is this is due to the poor recruitment last summer and our inability to strengthen midfield (and the Berge injury). I thought it was a Wilder issue, but the fact it's continuing under Heckingbottom is just bizarre. Surely an U23 player or a tweak to the system is a better option all round. Basket case club.

Bogle sat on the bench as well while 'Easter Island man' pirouettes around like dying swan. He must wonder wtf is going on!

It reached the point yesterday where it now is in Lundstram‘s own interest to rule himself out. He has knowledge of polls North of 90% wanting him dropped. He clearly saunters at a speed that rules out muscle injuries and makes sure not to get injured in tackles.

When the second went in, he had again jogged back, then turned away from the goal and almost appeared to avoid any eye contact with the backline...

He KNOWS that we know. He knows that his team mates are getting polarized. To play like he does must mean he knows where he will be next year. Otherwise he would state his case for the defense in words or deed on the pitch.

It is only fair to him to now leave him out. He should ask to be spared further reputational damage as a pro.

If he doesn’t, he is indeed thick and a fraudulent shirker...
