I saw one mention of Lundstram earlier, by Ricky, very positive, but apart from that I haven't found anyone else who can tell me more about his performance today.

If you were at the game today, could you write a few words, as it would be nice to follow his progress.

Thanks.

He had a good cameo. While Coutts is here, he is back up, or as today, to come off bench to shore up.

Looked fitter and Sharper today. No doubt "encouraged" by Wilder and Knill to up his work rate in training.

Needs to cut out the Hollywood passing. Learn from the maestro. Keep it simple. Keep the ball.

It's not a coincidence Coutts has more touches of the ball than any other UTD player.

It's not a coincidence that Coutts has an 87% pass success rate. In the top 10 in the division.

Encouraging. And further evidence that Wilder and Knill have an eye for talent, and a methodology to coax the best out of individuals, to enhance the squad as a whole.

Good summary, thanks.

He is getting better, I thought he did well today when he came on, loves a tackle, no neshing, and if it is a 50/50, you can guarantee he comes out of it with no injury.......

I said this a few weeks ago, the lad has a solid, stocky physique, so when we need some muscle on the pitch, he fits the bill.

He didn't seem to do lots, but was in the right positions, and his positioning helped us to take charge again after Sunderland's changes. That's more a compliment of Wilder, I guess, but Wilder needs players he can trust to do a job. He overhit a couple of "Hollywood passes", played some neat and tidy stuff in the middle, and put himself about. Gave away the free kick for their goal, but you could tell by the way Wilder was applauding our lads for getting stuck in late on, that the getting stuck was actively part of what Wilder wanted him to do. We haven't seen much of him, but given what we've seen so far, and his age, I feel like I'm going to really like him. Maybe for the time being one of those players that managers appreciate more than fans.

I don't understand how he can be "back up for Coutts" but also "sent on to defend our lead".

Thought he was excellent today. Came on kept it simple and really does love a tackle. He's tried to stick one on there players a few times.

If his shot had gone in when he nutmegged the lad I think a few blades would be trying to get on the pitch ignoring the 100ft drop.

He came on for Duffy. Our AM. He took up the position of DM in a deaper role than Duffy, who is ordinarily given licence to find space between the opposition midfield and defensive lines.

Was a defensive minded substitution.

As regards back up, Coutts has the shirt. It's his to lose. On current form, this isn't changing anytime soon. The manager has singled Coutts out as the outstanding performer on the pitch in the last 2 games in his post match interviews.

Is showing the world what a class act he is. Complimented by those around him,

Lundstram will play his part. He did it yesterday, and did it well.

Good today.

Loves a challenge, good positionally and got good ideas when he has the ball.

He's getting better.
good! Not before time. I'll reserve judgement till I've seen a bit more of him but can't say I've been impressed so far. That's not judging him, that's commenting of what I've seen.

Lundstram's issues have not been his ability but his decision making. Against Leicester his off the ball positioning was very poor and was the cause of at least 2 of those goals.

Yesterday he was much better, but his need to jump into tackles and show how tough he is led to their goal again. He needs to learn that the best form of defence is being on your feet and staying between the ball and the goal until those behind you have got organised.

On the ball he needs to keep his passing to be more Cricklewood than Hollywood!

He certainly has the potential to become a good DM though. For us oldies, maybe he should grow a bushy beard and be the next Werewolf - win the ball and give it to Paul/John/Mark!

The Magic is Back

Somebody said Lundstram reminded them of Hammond?
Perhaps they meant the Dean Hammond who played 100s of games top Championship sides rather than the shadow who came to us.

I suspect that fitness is a key part of Lundstram's game.

As others have said he looked fitter and sharper yesterday and was playing more on the same tempo as the rest of the midfield.

Was always gonna take a while for him to adjust to a new team and league. Positive signs though, he will only improve.

Lundstram is tall, rangy, has a long stride and good agility. That helps him be quite quick over the first few yards.

He has a good passing range with both feet.

He has decent composure and awareness on the ball.

He's a playmaker rather than a defensive player but he is willing to work hard and put himself about, and I think that's why Wilder signed him. In time he will become an all round midfielder.
