Lundstram’s Swagger

I understand individually but aside from when Berge was fit, he gets in regardless of how poor he is.

He's happy to play Bogle at LWB in front of others who are left footed so I don't buy the OCD approach that Osborn cannot play there instead of Lundstram. There are plenty of tense play 4-4-2 and the 2 central players are both right footed. Maybe a tendency to cut in more and give an additional approach through the centre wouldn't hurt anyway. We're very predictable in our approach to chance creation since Duffy left and in particular this season.
There’s a difference between a left footed player like Osborn and Stevens and a player like Bogle who is predominantly right footed but can use his left foot. There again so can Lundstram !

Hope they have a Roy, it'll be nice to be the ones ruining another clubs day with a transfer view from for a change. Usually it's us getting the shite that the previous club don't want.

I imagine their fans will just think we are being bitter because we've lost one of our best players. Outsiders really do think he's one of our big players mainly due to Fantasy Football.

If they look what most fans have said about him for the majority of his 4 years here they'll see he was always an average player who had a frankly weird 3 months last season. The outrage when he started the first game last season shows how little he was thought of.

I’ve been Lundstram’s biggest fan since we signed him. I thought he was really harshly treated when he came in for Coutts, they’re such different types of player it was never going to work with him in that role. The fans murdered him every week as we dropped off the promotion race.

Then when we came up and got himself into the shop window (because he was listed as a defender in error on fantasy football) he was playing really well, and to be honest, part of me understands why he doesn’t feel any loyalty to us after how fickle most fans have been towards him since he came in. Not to mention being binned off the moment Berge came in.

However, that performance yesterday was the worst performance I think I’ve ever seen from a united player. I was at Burnley for Lee Baxter’s debut too.

I noticed him make a mistake early in the game so made a point of keeping an eye on him just to see how he reacted to it. It was eye opening. He neshed EVERY tackle. I don’t remember him completing a pass, apart from the ones which were the wrong ball. He was playing the ball out of play. Tripping over the ball. The less said about his shooting the better.

It was the first time I’ve ever really truly felt that one of our players is taking the piss out of us.

I said exactly this on a thread a few weeks ago and I thought could it be possible that a player could want to get revenge on a manager for a perceived mistreatment to such an extent that they deliberately underperform ; just fail to close down an opponent, half hearted challenges, not tracking back, sliding into attempted tackles on a breakaway on the halfway line but mistime it, shoot wildly from the edge of the box and miss the target, underhit a vital penalty etc etc

I almost didn't write this post back then and now also because I don't believe criticism has a positive value.

But you make up your own mind.

hes been taking the piss all season and no matter how short of numbers we were the chris wilder of 2-3 years ago would have booted him out on his arse

That celebration didn’t sit right with me at the time and said an awful lot about him as a person.

Credit to him for August-December 2019, but I've never been a fan. I'm afraid the "it's all about me" celebration during the Bournemouth game just sealed it. At the time, it seemed so antithetical to the team ethic that had got us to where we were, and I can remember wondering out loud what Wilder would make of it.

I'd certainly like to know what his team mates think about his last few showings.

The night we played the pigs at the lane in 18/19, hammered them but couldn't score against 10 men.

Lundstram got the ball on the edge of the box and just honked one of his trademark wank shots over the bar.

I think that was the first time I clocked how average he naturally is, like a lot of this squad, last season was a fluke.

👋👋👋 Bye John enjoy Scotland.

What percentage of games has he played for us per season in the championship vs PL? It felt like he was very much more peripheral in the champ and it was a surprise to me when he became in the 2019 season a PL a starter. A couple of decent goals arriving late into the box and a cracking ball at Everton for Moose to score seemed (to me) to paper over the deficiencies, particularly his speed and lack of creativity.

Crystal Palace eyeing Sheffield United star John Lundstrum on free transfer

Several Premier League clubs keen to take Blades midfielder on a free from Bramall Lane
Crystal Palace are in the hunt for Sheffield United midfielder John Lundstram.
The 27-year-old is set to leave Bramall Lane when his contract expires in the summer and will be available as a free agent.
A number of Premier League clubs, including Burnley, have expressed an interest in the player.

If there's any truth in that report, which I doubt, then good luck to John Lundstram.

I don't like to see posts saying how much people "hate" him or that "he's taking the piss". I don't know how so many people define so clearly how much effort is being put in or how much players supposedly care.

The reality is, and always has been, that's he's not really a very good player and you can't blame him for his lack of ability. If he can get another PL team to pay him an astronomical wage then more fool the club that does so. Getting paid handsomely for so little output is something that surely we all aspire to?

In League One I'm certain he'd look like a good midfielder.

GLTTL wherever he goes. As long as it’s away from Bramall Lane.

Best he can hope for is that he joins a team like either Palace or Burnley, who seem to make a habit of picking up fairly average British central midfielders. He'll mostly be sat on the bench, though, because he'll be among their worst British central midfielders and ultimately get picked up by a Championship club, where he'll also be fairly average. He just turned 27 last month...I reckon he'll be in League One by the age of 30/31.

Not sure if it's been said before, but bearing in mind we are short of midfielders and that's why Lundstram plays, surely its time to blood some younguns. They can't be any worse.

When he came in to replace Coutts initially, he got it in the neck for simply not being Paul Coutts but he was slow, off the pace and didn't offer a lot. Couldn't get in the side in the promotion season and then, to my utter disbelief, there he was in the starting line up away at Bournemouth. I was shocked initially that he hadn't been let go in the summer, never mind be starting in the Premier League!

To be fair to him, he took his chance and did well for a few months but ever since the contract stuff started happening then Berge signed and pushed his nose out of joint when he started being left out, it's allowed him to dine out on that purple patch even more when the rest of the time, he might as well have not been on the field. I'd like him to sign for another Premier League team just to show him up for the charlatan he is because outside of our bubble, he'll be shown up for the level he is and that's League One.

Nearly 48 hours later. He's still a cunt and I still hate him.

Couldn't happen to a nicer bloke. Hope he does his ACL last week of the season.

Sorry to say but Saturday was the first time I went to myself, what is he offering us week in week out. He is no longer doing the lung busting runs into the box. His passing and vision is severely lacking. He loses the ball and seems not arsed about winning it back. He is clearly no longer motivated.

The issue! We have no other midfielders to play! Yeah Osborn is there but I think Wilder sees him as a left sided midfielder/wing-back to cover for Fleck, Stevens etc.

If Berge was fit, Lundstram would be warming the bench.

I think most fans are now at the point where they'd rather see promising youngsters given a shot, even if they struggle, at least they actually want to wear the shirt!

If players like Zak Brunt, Frankie Maguire and Iliman Ndiaye are good enough to be on the bench then they must be somewhere near good enough to play, surely, or why name them on the bench!

I'd rather see genuinely anyone in there except him. It really is Anyone But Lunny at this point!

You’re right.

I’m neither in the ‘don’t play the youngsters, it will destroy them!!’ Camp nor the ‘these youngsters could be £50 million players and we don’t know it yet!’ Camp.

But his output is literally zero at the moment, so it’s impossible not to improve on that. I particularly think if we play Ndiaye in the Duffy role he could be a revelation though and give us something to think about next season, as well as something to smile about towards the end of this one.
