Stick or twist?

A supreme talent in the Championship, who we might have ruined (again).
Do we give him another try next season?
We are crying out for a return of the infamous 10 role, and I can't think of many I'd prefer than pre 2020 Luke Freeman next year.
Well, I wouldn't have got rid of him this season but that's another story. Hindsight and all that (not that it's even hindsight, it was clearly fucking idiotic to get rid of our only creative midfield player and not replace him)

He impressed me most times he pulled on the shirt, was unlucky that the 3 in midfield worked so well and Fleck was in the form of his life.
Played really well at the beginning of the season and imo in the cup game at Reading (if I remember rightly) which is the level he'll be playing at next year.
His close control, dribbling and vision are at home at this level nevermind the one below. Does the rest of his game stack up? Fuck knows, barely got to see it. But I like him.
And if he plays for us he can't play against us - judging on the fact he always has a worldy against us that can only be a good thing.

Hasn't had the best time of it at Forest but then again no one has this year. And rare that attacking players shine for them at all for some reason.
Has he got too much flair and creativity for Wilder? He doesn't like players like that.

FWIW - 100% keep. Players like that are the type I like to pay to see, not your Lundstrams of this world. I'd keep him and sign another number 10 to compete with him. Really commit to the shape which has served us so well.
Freeman behind any 2 of McBurnie, Brewster, McGoldrick, Sharp, Burke should be more than enough to take the league by storm.
Unfortunately I feel the dreaded flat 3 will continue and we'll continue to bore teams to sleep down the wings then look to score 1 if we're lucky and sit on it.

How many bad games before you think he should never play for the club again? I'd guess at 4.

Depends if he turns into a cunt along the way or not.

Have you got any examples of players who've had 4 bad games who I don't think should play for the club again?
I'd love to see them, but I suspect you haven't.

He won't be playing for us next season. We were looking like being thin on the ground in terms of midfielders this season and we haven't got a recall clause on the loan in January. Says what Wilder thinks of him in my opinion. After the fuss made about signing him it's disappointing to say the least.

Nope

Such a good player. He probably told Chris 'I think we'd look better with me behind 2 strikers' and signed his own death warrant

Can't be having that much onus on attacking, get fucked

Probably more likely Forest made a financial commitment in the loan which removes the right to a recall

Thought as much
Just seems over the top the way you make out you knew he was our most creative midfielder at the start of the season. Hasnt even been a regular in a struggling forest side. Seems a knee-jerk reaction to me is all.

He clearly was and is our most creative midfielder. He's our only true 'number 10'.

Do you not understand how the game works?

So at the start of the season you'd have said he's a better creative midfielder at this level than Fleck? I can't believe for 1 second that could ever be true. Its a weird one definitely but to make out he's our only creative midfielder I personally think is silly and is purely because he's not here.

A quick search on the Forest board would suggest he's not the answer to our midfield problems. Plus, he's been out a couple of months with a complicated hernia op apparently.

He's 100% more of a creative midfielder than Fleck.
A better player? No. More creative? Yes.

Fleck's a box to box midfielder who can sometimes spot a pass and drive with the ball from deep and create chances. Freeman gets hold of the ball and sticks it to his foot like it's on a piece of string, draws fouls, pings balls into the box and plays around the 18 yard box.

They're left footed and both under 6 foot. That's where the similarities end.

He'll be 29 at the start of next season. If we do go back up, he'll be 30/31 in the PL. He's not the future and we've seen this season how we need to go up with a team which can improve. So, no, sell.

Agree on everything regarding the number 10 role. Even just from a squad depth point of view, we have to get him back and start playing that formation again, because if we persist with the 'flat 3' then we simply don' have enough central midfielders. We already now that Berge, Ampadu and Lundstram are leaving, so that would only leave us with Norwood, Fleck and Osborn. Which clearly isn't enough and it would be a big gamble to sign 3 or 4 more.

Including a number 10 means we also have McGoldrick and Freeman for the three spots, and so we'd probably only need one more midfielder.

Or, hear me out here, just sign good players when we go up?

We have enough 'he's young, he needs to learn and improve' players in the squad now. We need some established Championship talent.

Agree to disagree. Fleck for me was a very creative midfielder last season.

Ok...

Do you think we'd be more or less creative with both Freeman and Fleck in the side?

Player plays bad for another club so can't be good for us alert
'Suggests' not 'Can't be'
He might come back and do us a brilliant job, but until he was out, (according to posts on their forum plus the opinion of my Forest supporting neighbour) he was ineffective and struggling to do the basics well.
Based on his recent performances/attitude to games, it would suggest that it should be a consideration on what to do with him next.

with whose money? They cost £20 million with our recruitment policy.
