Just a quick thread re: Luke Freeman.

I always wanted us to sign him from his Stevenage days. Quality player. He's been great throughout his career, really skilful and a joy to watch.

I'm just a little disappointed that we haven't really got to see the guy in a blades shirt. That's not a dig at CWAK as I understand the formation and team shape this season. It's just that we've got a player on our books who can genuinely get you out of your seat and unfortunately, we've not seen the guy in our shirt.

I just wish we had him last season. Such a lovely footballer.

Can't see him being here next season, like you say a good player but doesn't fit the model and the model is working 100%

I honestly thought he wouldn't have got in our team last year, so I was very surprised when we bought him. I remember a few posters guaranteeing that he'd make the step up.

I actually think he's been good when given the chance, but he's nowhere near the player Fleck is so is unlikely to play unless there are injuries.

We don't even seem to switch it up in the games we need to attack. It was clear when we let Duffy go that we didn't intend on using a similar player so it's odd we went out and got him. I wonder if it was made as a just in case we get relagated signing.

Not a player I've ever been impressed by, however when he's come in he has been solid, more of a winger but we don't use them as such! Good player but just not good enough.

He’s a good footballer but he’s not done much in the cups when he’s had the chance.

Up to him really. If he wants to fight for his place he’s a useful option to have around, but he’s never starting ahead of Fleck, Norwood or Berge.

Really? I thought he was great in the last round - yes OK it's only Reading (who really deserve to be in 3rd tier, can't believe they're still Championship based on their performances against us in recent years) but even so, thought he looked good enough to be not far off the first team.

It’s a squad game and for £4m he is a great player for the squad. We could resell him for a decent profit.

If we ever play football again and manage to qualify for Europe he’ll get more games next season. Unless he’s desperately unhappy (and I don’t think he is) there’s no reason for him not to stay.

We have spent well over £60m in new recruits since our return to the PL.

None of them, at present, look like being consistently decent PL level operators. Moments, yes.

That may of course change.

UTB.

Said this before but that spell at the start of the season when Fleck was injured, he was instrumental in some of those early points we picked up.

He made the goal against Palace and orchestrated things for the comeback in the second half against Chelsea.

Even in the cup games he’s looked like the one player on the pitch with obvious quality. He oozes class. He does exactly what Duffy does and more, he’s also younger as well.

Freeman has been a lot more effective than Berge has so not sure how you come to the conclusion he can’t start in front of him. Both have had limited playing time, one has slotted straight in and made things happen.....the other has been a passenger (not necessarily Berge’s fault btw). It’s a new league for them them both. Luke Freeman is a quality player.

Neither have done very much, but Berge cost £20m odd and has clearly been bought with a vision in mind. Don’t get me wrong, I wouldn’t have played Berge as much as he has been, but Freeman hasn’t done enough to displace him and he needs bedding in. Plus the team is winning, so no real need to change.

For what it’s worth, I’d have been picking Besic to be honest.

He’s busy and puts himself about, but he’s always going to struggle anyway because Wilder likes a more defensive player alongside Fleck and Norwood, neither of which he’ll ever replace.

I think Freeman's made himself a fair bit more robust to give himself the best chance of starting in our team/system. Hopefully it works for him.

If the season is condensed into 4-6 weeks he should get opportunities.

For the 100th time. Freeman is an attacking midfielder with a dominant left foot. There is only one position Wilder is going to play him in (in our usual formation) and that’s Fleck’s. He’s not better than Fleck. He won’t be playing in Norwood’s role, he won’t be playing right midfield. He will play in Fleck’s role when Fleck is out and might play as a 10 behind two strikers if we ever revert to 3412.

Sigh.

Another way of getting a dig in at Ollie McB as per the usual agenda.

WUM post (again).
