Loyalty Points

Didn't know you could do that, cheers. I've got over 50k so can get a ticket for pretty much any game but my 14 year old only has 30k which rules him out of the big games.

Yep. Eldest lad and me similar to you so didn’t want 2 out of 3 going as youngest always goes with us.

My 16 year old has ticket for both pigs and Leeds with his loyalty points.

I transferred some of mine and his elder brothers points to him earlier in the season with this scenario in mind. All with the ticket office agreement.

Worth looking into if anyone has “excess” points and wants to increase younger family members chances. If we go up demand and some more smaller allocations will ensure a repeat of fans frustrations.

Thats a great idea

The question of the Loyalty Points system always happens when there is a Sheffield derby, there have been a majority of away games that having 10k points would have got you a ticket without a problem
Im in agreement if you go to night away games a long way away ypu should get you 300 points as should a League Cup tie at I was going to say Hartlepool but they are no longer in the League

I supported United at Gay Meadow on a Tuesday, how many points does that deserve?

This only crops up with the big games. The midweek/long distance games should attract far more points.

Anyone going to away games will be aware that there are plenty of younger fans there, not just "pensioners".

Plenty of fans stuck by the team home and away in the L1 years . I don't see why those years should be knocked off by an arbitrary five year plan. Makes a mockery of "loyalty" doesn't it.

Agree with this, despite it disadvantaging me.

The only "middle ground" I can think of (and I've said this before) is to follow a similar model to Club England for games where it's obvious demand will outstrip supply. Plenty of games have gone to Gen sale this season.

Basically the majority of tickets are issued on loyalty, then a %age are issued as a ballot.

I'm not saying this would be any better, or not have it's own issues, it's just putting a suggestion out there.

As Sean says there only ever seems to be this conversation for the "Big" away games, which is fully understandable given that's when demand will outstrip supply.

That immediately would improve the current system in my opinion. That shouldn’t be particularly taxing to administer either.

40k is attainable for under 20’s. In fact 45k. Someone going all the time from inception shouldn’t, in my opinion, have their points docked.

The system has flaws re younger fans but there are plenty of youngsters at the less desirable away games, where tickets aren’t snapped up at 40k points. I don’t have an answer, l suspect there isn’t one, but I know pandering to fans who moan about ticket availability for big games only isn’t it.

Here’s an idea though  for any missed seasons, say for ST’s knock 2500 points of their total. :)

Remember, children read this forum so any abusive replies by pm please......:shark:
Our Jack is 18, has been a ST holder since he was about 7, but had two years out while he lived in Spain. He has nearly 39k

Normally I would have paid scant regard to making the loyalty points a level playing field, but my lad has had 5 years of season tickets, plenty of away games and is still around the 18k, so it has opened my eyes up a little.
Agreed im mid 20s and barely have 20 even after years of stickets and aways a rolling 2/3 year period would be sensible especially if we do manage to get promoted

need to go rolling 5 years. lad has been to Bristol, Wigan, Rotherham (waiting list), Swansea, West Bromwich this year. over 35 different grounds in last 3 years, but no chance of a ticket at local big matches.
i look like going in pig end as been to every derby for 40 years, but due to work only 36k points. Away matches warrent more points. As there will be a load of pensioners there and few young uns. The atmosphere at West Brom was tremendous and am sure helped the team.
In the last 6 seasons my daughter has done a minimum of 14 away games. Sometimes as many as 20. Playing shit in league 1 never presented her and her boyfriend from getting tickets but this ended when Wilder came. Plenty of those with historic points tagged along again and when her points weren’t enough she ‘borrowed’ them as seeing the game was more important. She has missed 3 away games this season. A few tickets (inc Monday) have had to be gained by borrowing points again. Yes she will eventually catch others up but we reckon it will take at least 15 years or more. It’s hard to find a system that works for all but without doubt the current one discriminated against the younger supporter who wasn’t around at its creation

How many points for Port Vale In 99?
Port Vale, Boxing Day 2014, lost 3-0 (I think), snowstorm, only game I have EVER left early, total shite, got home 10.30pm after nearly getting stranded on Woodhead. I still think that going to this game should entitle me to about 2 million loyalty points and unlimited access and discount to any away game. Unfortunately it doesn't, and after a nearly unbroken 22 years as ST holders, unable to get tickets to either the Sty or, more crucially, Elland Road, esteemed Forgeblade and myself wonder what the points system is actually about.

They could have a system where the points required are either your total points OR x amount from the last 3 seasons. For example, the first day would be 50k overall OR 10k from the current and previous two seasons. Then no one would be discriminated against.

The loyalty point system argument literally only comes up for pig game and Rotherham away earlier this season. The system works fine, it rewards loyalty from its inception. Someone who’s had a season ticket since 2006, been regularly to away games deserves the chance to go to hillsborough.

The older ones will stop going, and will get replaced by younger ones in time. (Ie I’m in my early 40s, got 50k loyalty points, but life means I’ll not be going to away games much from now on, therefore I’ll soon enough get surpassed by people say 10 years younger than me)

There’s Been about 2/3 away games this season that haven’t gone to general sale. Boro away we barely took 1000, wasn’t an issue then.

Restarting the system doesn’t work as it’s a free for all for first game, then they become the elite! Looking at the last 2/3 years doesn’t work as they will always be the elite!

The system works just fine. People just get het up for about 2 or 3 games a season.

Pig tickets this year haven’t been hard to get. There have been loads of spares floating about, club staff got a minimum of 3 each (more higher up the chain), my pal got 20 off a club employee and has been selling them in his boozer.

If we don’t go up, and wilder goes, we won’t have any loyalty points debates next season as they’ll be loads of tickets available for every game

Lost 2-1 Bash was sent off. 10.30? You had it easy!! I left with 10 mins to go the snowflakes were that big. After driving for almost 9 hours I (and many many more Blades who were stuck on the M1/parkway eventually got home after 2am. Surely that entitles is to 2.5 million points? :D

We stayed until full time, then had to try and sleep in the car after getting stuck by losing momentum due to a trapped coach.

I still think there is something to be said for a system where some activities earn you points and some cost you points.

E.g. ST gets you 2500, but getting a ticket for the sty on day 1 costs you 1000.

Get the numbers right and you'll get the balance right between opportunity and rewarding loyalty.

And for those mentioning that this is only ever an issue 3 times a season, that's true. Unless we go up, when it will likely be true 15+ times (if not more)

Rewarding loyalty by taking points off you?

I called the ticket office last week and they said u cant transfer points to each other. How did you manage to do it?

You can between parent and child. They let me also do brother to brother at same time. If that’s your situation then I suggest taking it up with them again.

Never fails to make me chuckle how these loyalty points threads appear when we play Parson Cross Rovers but never do for Ipswich or Reading on a Tuesday night.

It comes up where demand exceeds allocation, so quite naturally isn’t going to. To suggest it only comes up in the derby completely ignores the situation for away games when we got promoted 2 years ago. It would be nice if we actually looked at the options available to improve it rather than simply maintain it as it is ignoring criticisms it receives.
