Looks like more money is going to be waved in front of young Matt's eyes.

And that is when he's been having a testing time of late with his performances, still think he'd make a better midfielder though

Surprised given how disappointing he has been. He's clearly better going forward than defending - so if he is going to play at a higher level I think it would have to be in midfield.

If we have serious ambitions about going straight back up,we need to be keeping the likes of Lowton at the club.We should be looking at keeping the squad we have and adding to it,not dismantling it.If the players are under contract, they shouldnt be allowed to leave.Wilson needs all the help he can get.By selling players again we could be looking at years in this shithole division.

The thing is we still have all the high earners on the books we had hoped to get shut of in the August transfer window, they are bleeding the club dry
I think there will definately have to be movement out of the club it depends who other clubs are interested in, it would be nice to see the likes of Cresswell, Porter and to a lesser extent Monty and Quinn on their way and to keep young players like Lowton.

Whilst i accept we have players on high wages,i cannot accept the proposed sale of yet more of our youngsters. Will the club never learn, selling players and replacing them with players of inferior quality is not the answer.I find it hard to believe that all the parachute money,Tevez money and the cash generated by player sales as gone on paying the wages of players presently at the club.It is time to make a stand and not sell players. If we dont get out this time we will see a dramatic drop in attendances and the knock on effect that will have.

"If we have serious ambitions about going straight back up..."

I'm not sure we do really. Someone may have said it, but crazy wages v not dead good team probably puts paid to actually doing it.

It would be a shame if we let him go before he was tried in midfield. He has the attributes to become a poor man's Frank Lampard. At right back I fear his weakness at one on one defending may limit him to Championship level.

i'm begining to think we need to clear out the higher earners as we can't afford them
if we manage to make the play offs this year good but i think we need time to really re build
and get our books in order

Whilst we all share the frustration, it's laid bare in the accounts. The money, and some, has gone. It doesn't really matter on what, there's none left and until the wagebill is diminished, we either sell players of hope McCabe will stump up more cash. Given that he created the mess, it's "fair" to expect him to do this to a degree. But we are payig third division players up to £1,000,000 per year. Something's got to give.

I'm sure some on here would (or would have until recently) include Ched.

Sell him in January, and we're truly fucked.

Totally agree with your comments.
Football finance is a very difficult subject and as a "smaller club" in terms of financial ability to compete a balancing act is required as we will always be a selling club, unless substantial investment can be found from elsewhere instead of having to rely on one person.
However in the current climate no new investment will be found in this division, imho, therefore the first priority is to get back this season into the championship, and that means keeping the better younger players for that purpose and insisting that they stick to the contracts as signed.
As Eckingtonian says if we start accepting cheques in January for the Lowton's in the team then we are destined for a long spell in league 1.
The result will be falling gates and advertising revenue decreased.
We can live as a championside team imho comfortably with the current funding arrangements, but the Premiership no,unless larger investment is obtained.
This would probably mean foreign investors being attracted.
What always puzzles me is that I wonder why we have other directors on board who seem to bring little investment in to support their privaledged postion.
If anyone has the last set of accounts I would be interested to be to see a list posted on here of each director's own personal investment into the club, which should be tabulated somewhere in the accounting information.

There's more than one? Sell the shit one and keep the good one then.

If by pluralising matthew Lowton (who last time I looked was in the singular) you mean the younger players fresh-faced from the academy, then we've already done that this season. Jordan Slew, anyone?

Think there's been a huge upturn in Lowton's form in recent weeks. I'd be very disappointed if he left. Let's clear out the older, higher paid players, not the likes of Lowton.

The problem is players such as cresswell who are under performing and robbing a massive wage is that we'll not be able to move them on, they'd have to take a drop in wages as there isn't anybody as daft as us to pay them that much, in cressy's boots would you move and take less money, no and neither will he, as another club would you pay good money to buy him then give him £10k (if rumours are true) a week, guessing that's another no.

In short we're stuck with some old under performing players bleeding us dry, even top players don't get offered 3 year contracts at 31, absolutely scandalous!!!

Rant done!

I wonder if we should let the higher earners, the likes of Creswell, Quinn, Monty etc go by subsidising their wages to enable another club to take them on. If we paid half their wages, or bought out part of their contract they would move then.

If we lose Lowton or Maguire how are we ever going to rebuild our team?

Funny you should say that but I found out today we had the same agreement with everton and BT's wages when he was here first time, seems more like a good deal when you think what we have paid out for some players since
