Twas ever thus. But when you see apathetic performances you become apathetic yourself. It should hurt when a goal is conceded, but I could barely foster a reaction when they scored. Play like we did and you're bound to get punished at some point. Any half-decent side (ie not Fulham) would have handed us a dry bumming last night.
 
You see Blades, it's like the time we decided to not buy a christmas tree every year and throw it away. Bought a real one with roots. After silly season, planted in ground
allowing it to grow and thrive. Something to love and cherish and enjoy every day. Part of your life, give you a warm feeling, always there JUST LIKE OUR BLADES.
We've been worse. For me this is like 75-76 season after an excellent 74-75. We won't slip further though, not this time.

Anyways. The xmas tree, feckin' thing died as soon as I planted it.

I've always been intellectually intrigued by that sort of view. With changes of ownership, management, location, colours, strips, badges, corporate structure, direction, strategy, administration, resurrection, etc there are so many things that can change within the outer shell of "Sheffield United" (for example).
I feel many fans see a line in the sand that they would not cross. For a strong eg, moving out of Bramall Lane is often cited as that line. But, as & when they get closer to that line - it just shifts & they will remain fans. There doesn't even have to be something/anything you actually like about the club, it's the can't put your finger on it "shell" that you're attracted to. For me, it's certainly not any manager or player or owner - they just come & go. I often muse about shit like this & your OP triggered yet more introspection - you bastard (smiley face thing)

Perspective makes us respect mediocrity.

'Oh we were in League 1 a few years ago therefore we shouldn't be too down about things now'

NO. That is small club mentality which I for one am sick of.

Exactly, it's supposed to hurt
But when Fulham scored, I laughed.

When I looked at our stats up to Fulham scoring, 0 shots, 0 on target, 22% possession, I laughed again.

It won't be so funny is if it's the same turgid shyte next season.

But that's Sheffield United for you, it's either half decent but turgid or it's absolutely turgid shyte. Either way turgid is always involved.

We are a small club, get over it. We're never going to win the prem or become a top 6 regular.
 
I get it SB, and the bottom line is, it's the majority view on here, once everyone calms down that is.

99% of posters on this sight feel the same way .
Some of us are constructive,,some just berate the team through frustration,others cant see no wrong? Are there any other groups? We all obviously feel strongly enough to comment and long may that continue.

Leicester are not a top 6 regular.

Their miracle Premier League win has set the standard then has it? Our ambition should be miracles and glory, just being better than 3/4 of the clubs of similar size to us is unacceptable.

So remembering our six years in league one should be of no relevance, whatsoever.

But another club achieving what is arguably the greatest club-level achievement should act as a crucial moment in measuring ourselves?

If you are failing at your work do you say to yourself 'well for 6 years I couldn't even read and write so I shouldn't feel so bad and put things in perspective'?

Ok top 9 regulars, though were 5th last season and will probably make the top 6 again this season to back that up.

Yes our ambitions should be to win games and go for glory, not settle for mediocrity.

Our ambition ought to be a lot more and much higher than has been on show this season.
 
People react differently to adversity.

I'm not sure trying to push the angle that if you're currently pissed off with what's happening, then you're not a proper Blade, is anything other than disrespectful tbh.

I think last night was the first time this season I've felt numb watching us and have completely and utterly accepted relegation. I thought I had after West Ham but realised last night I hadn't 100% as it hit me during the first half.

I've got no excuses for this season even though I would have been delighted with 17th from the very start.

Having backed Wilder 100% I'm not even sure where he is at any more. Is he struggling with it all? Can't be easy coping with his first ever failure after all this time as a manager and as a double whammy, at the club he loves.

Today I'm struggling to have any emotion about it. Not angry, although I have been at times recently, and not feeling particularly sorry for all concerned either.

I'm not confident about next season for a number of reasons but equally I've not written off the prospect of a promotion challenge.

All I know is that if I was allowed, I'd still be at all the remaining games this season.

None of that makes me better or worse than any other Unitedite.

Nobody's ambition is mediocrity, I don't dream about being mediocre.

But I also don't think being mediocre is on a par with murder and trading slaves. It isn't unacceptable, demanding the swift and final justice of sacking our manager. Demanding constant improvement and glory is unrealistic, childish and fundamentally not how football works.

Who mentioned murder and slaves, I didn't mention sacking our manager though others have done so and have the right to.

All other clubs demand constant improvement, why should we be different?
