I know what you are saying Bush but i genuinely think Reed would benefit from playing in a higher league.

Adams was distinctly average in L1 but turns out as Birminghams young player of the year in the Championship. DCL couldn't buy a start in L1 but has pushed on in Evertons first team.

I Also believe there are many top end players who would struggle with the week in week out slog of lower division football. IMO
I think the top end players thing is a little different. There are a lot of kids at PL academies who've never been exposed to the physical side of the game. As you probably know, a lot of small clubs pick up these kids on trial when they get released from the big academies and it's a common theme. Apparently a lot are lost to the pro game because they can't cope with the physical side of the lower leagues. Similarly I've heard two or three lower league managers saying a lot of young defenders can't defend. I heard someone being interviewed saying his heart sinks when he hears a potential signing being described as a 'ball playing defender' which is apparently a euphemism for 'can't head it or tackle'.

Adams wasn't distinctly average in L1, he looked shit hot when he broke through and fell away badly under Adkins.

DCL keeps getting picked because he's the star player in their table topping u23s but just like with us he doesn't seem to be able to transfer that talent to the first team. I think he suffers badly from nerves.

The big difference between the PL and the other leagues is that players don't try to tackle an opponent who's fully in control of the ball in the PL. If a player isn't properly in control of the ball, they'll have it taken from them. That isn't the case in the lower leagues, where players fly in with tackles but any decent PL player would just leave them in his wake or draw an obvious foul that the ref couldn't ignore. I think that's pretty much the same in the championship, I don't think it's become the PL2, I don't think it's reffed like the PL, it's reffed like the rest of the FL.

Technical players like Reedy will be better suited to a higher level of football due to their understanding and Reading of he game when it becomes more technical, playing systems to get fullbacks out allows more time in the centre of the park, left footers playing on the right and vice versa opens up the space even more for both fullback and midfield players, I didn't notice too many teams in league 1 with much of a plan other than get men behind the ball and stop us playing and hope to hit us on the counter or hit it long and play off the knock down by passing the midfield, as the saying goes a good player in an average team looks average , an average player in a good team looks like a good player. Not many people would have displaced Coutts and Fleck last year and I don't remember a midfield ever over running ours since end of September
