It's come to a pretty pass when after three defeats in a whole year, that a League One manager bites the dust after his team lose to the Red and White Wizards.

It set me thinking about other managers who haven't survived a defeat against us and where they've paid the ultimate price. I seem to recall that Jack Charlton was either sacked or resigned at Newcastle after a pre-season friendly against us, and it may have been a draw, not even a defeat, which is even worse.

Any others down the years?

When we won 5-2 at Charlton a few years back, Pardew got his marching orders the next day i seem to remember. Then again they couldn't buy a win at the time

Alan Pardew left Charlton after we hammered them 5-2. Strangely enough his replacement Phil Parkinson had his job made permanent just after we beat them 3-1 in the same season!

Damn you Aml-blade...

You replied between me clicking on the thread and clicking send, so kudos for that. I'm sure there have been more in recent years, too.

Didn't one of QPR's numerous managers get moved on after a match against us? Paul Hart?

When we beat Forest, Clough lost his job.

He'd already decided to call it a day hadn't he? We just ensured that he ended with a relegation.

I was too young to be there but oh how I wish I had been. Not only did we send Forest down but I understand there was a beautiful display of mutual appreciation between our fans and Cloughie.

It was a 1-1 draw in August 1985. The fans were already booing Charlton before the game and the booing got louder during the game. Charlton then told the Newcastle board that he had decided to quit. I remember that day well because I was coming back to Sheffield by train from a week long chess tournament at Edinburgh. The train stopped at Newcastle around lunch time and even though I was a part time Blade at that time, I was tempted to go to the friendly game at St james Park but I had no money left for leaving the luggage in the train station and for the admission price to go to the match. I was surprised to find that the friendly game had the biggest headline on the back of the Sunday papers

I seem to remember an Everton boss getting sacked after we beat them.

It was brilliant. One of my favourite away days. Still an innocent teenager, we looked like an established top flight team, the world was our oyster, we brushed aside a team I associated with always challanging going for honours (albeit mainly cups).
We were starting Cloughie for England chants. Another full away end. I really thought the blades could do no wrong around that time.

I was there too. A wonderful day. It was a vital game for us and went a long way to our staying up that year, together with a 2-0 midweek win at Everton in the next game, televised by Sky. If memory serves Gayle got the first at Forest with a header followed by a beauty from Hodges. At Everton, Bradshaw and Deane I'm sure.

Was at that game we started singing 'Charlton Out' and the Newcastle fans joined in. Charlton was sacked or resigned (cant remember which) immediately after the game. As we were leaving the ground our coaches were applauded by the Newcastle fans instead of having bricks thrown at us, very strange :)

That was his last home game (which I think we won 2-1). His last game was the following week at Chelsea. Of course, he re-appeared for Preston 2 years later...

Yes, I was at Bobby's last home match. You're right, we won 2-1 and Keith Eddy got a belter (I think Currie got the other). Around 1975. I was sat in the North stand which was fantastic but nothing like it is today. Seem to think it was a Bank Holiday Monday.

The crowd was 58,000 and, on the same day, the Massive got 8000 at home to Carlisle.

Also at the other game mentioned (Cloughie's last). That was a Bank Holiday Monday (1990 I think). Goals from Brian Gayle and Glyn Hodges, brilliant sunshine, 5k Blades there. I remember some Forest fans in a pub before the game telling us Cloughie was 'on 3 bottles of whisky a day'. Didn't believe it then. Certainly believe it now. God, life seemed so good and simple back then!

Didn't the Iraq war start after kozzy skyedcthat cross v port vale
I wasn't there so I don't know

I was at Bobby Charlton's last match, remember Eddy's winner. Funnily enough didn't seem such a big deal at the time 'cos the Blades were one of the big hitters af the period. Also went a couple of years later in Man Utd's first return after promotion and they gubbed us 5-1. The home crowd were singing "Currie Currie show us yer arse".

Bobby Charlton's last home game was on Easter Monday 1973. It was Billy Dearden who got our equaliser (not TC who equalised Lou Macari's opener in our 2-1 win on Boxing Day 1973 before Woody getting the winner) and Eddy got our winner. Brian Kidd had opened the scoring cashing on a mistake by debutant Steve Faulkner.

Brian Clough's last home game was played on a Saturday (two days before May Day holiday) in May 1993

Just a quick thank you for getting rid of Pardew for us. Actually, I think Birmingham this season have been responsible for 3 post match sackings.

I was at Newcastle. Their fans were singing "Charlton must go" from the start which the Blades reproduced after a second half equaliser. By the end of the game the Geordies were booing their own, shouting "ole" for our payers and even started singing "Sheffield United". Great pre-season friendly.

Maybe the Blades "HOOF!" taunts got to the Hudders board. It would be a shame if the same happened to the delightful Gary Megson wouldn't it?

In the same season,we also saw off Lawrie McMenemy after beating Sunderland 2-1 at Roker Park - they went on to be relegated.

Sorry to go all Olle on you, egomaniacally resurrecting a post I started, but this has to be a first..... the ultimate humiliation, beating us, he clearly had to go!

A club as MASSIVE as them, should be beating the likes of us by 5 clear goals...
