I choose to go to Wembley along with my irish " Blade " son , we also went to Swindon at home before Christmas , plastic I know , but it's all I could afford .
If I lived in Sheffield I'd be there every other week and go to most of the away games as well , bit like when I first moved over here and used to take the ferry over on a Friday night arrive in Liverpool satdi morning then trian it over from there , then do the reverse on a Sunday night to get to iWork for Monday morning , did that till mid to late 80's when it was 4th and 3rd div shite .
Does that qualify me as a bigger Blade ( which is bollox by the way .) for a big gold badge .
Maybe the reason why only 17k turned up at the lane the following week was because like me and a load more off this site we don't live in S2 anymore , a lot more couldn't be arsed , or maybe spending money on 3rd div shite didn't appeal to them .
The only person who can decide wether to accept or decline our offer is the player himself , I really , really , hope the club make an offer that's good enough to keep the lad , so he can become part of out future , if he doesn't he's given us a couple of good years let him go with our blessing and best wishes , were a selling club , ask Southampton , Manu , Arsenal , they all seem to sell there best players .
I trust our manager to do the best for our club , he's not done to bad so far , and let's be honest , the last few , apart from DW first season have been a fucking disaster .

Well if they sell Harry, that's it for me. After 52 years I'm off to support a team that doesn't sell players. Can anybody point me in the right direction? ;)

It's all getting a bit silly. I was there on 17th May 2011 for the FA Youth Cup Final (read the rest of this impressive missive, then use the link to look at the players on show) and Harry, with his physical presence, stood out. Just as he has over the last couple of seasons. But could he be 'punching above his weight'? Against kids and Division One players, he looks impressive but will that apply in the Championship - or above? Harry's good, but is he that good? For my money, Kyle Bartley was better.

One last point. Some fans want it both ways. We've got a never-ending 'wish list' of players we'd like to see brought in, but obviously they'll want 'tempting' wages to attract them. What if we're bringing in players on more than Harry's on? Loyalty cuts both ways. Hopefully HM and his agent are engaging in brinkmanship and are saying 'look, Harry's been here all his professional career, player of the year etc. and you're paying X more.'
I've just read that Jack Colback at Sunderland (think Quinn - ginger, talented, underrated) has let his contract run down and is off. He's seen the 'foreign legion' that managers such as diCanio, Poyet or diFanti (Director of Football) insist on bringing in to 'improve' things, and he's off. His wages? £6k a week.

Can you explain why 34000+ turned up at Wembley yet only half that number at the lane a few day earlier for a League one game

Because with several matches in close proximity to each other, many fans, particularly if they have children, have to choose because they can't afford to go to all. Especially if you factor in the additional cost of rip-off Wembley !!

I think £1-2 million would get him, if he wants to go. Keeping him if he doesn't want to stay isn't going to happen.

That makes no sense. We should keep him until Clough's valuation of him is met.
His valuation should be much more than £1M and it does appear to be.
Other clubs do not sell a player at a bargain price as soon as they express an interest in leaving.
They only sell if the deal is right for the club as well as the player.

You can all buy your season tickets now HM is definitely staying.

Brannigan has stated we've turned down two bids for Harry

Furthermore, Brannigan says we don't have to sell our best players

You may well be right that HM is staying, but if HM doesn't sign his new contract offer, he will be sold imo, unless of course you have info to say the contrary.

Sign on the dotted line Harry and let's move on :)

If you listen to the whole interview he says we don't need to sell and will be keeping him to his contract so regardless of whether he signs or not he's staying which is good news :)

<< Brannigan said. “It is one where if you look at the amount of money that could come in on Harry, yes you could utilise it. But we’d much prefer Harry stay as part of our squad. Having players in there who are settled, who know the manager, who know the team, know their team-mates has much more value than actually trying to utilise funds to shake things up sometimes which can be detrimental to the rest of the club.” >>

Music to my ears. Finally, the people at the top are talking sense. Let's hope they stick to it this time.

Silly money aside of course, there is very little point in Harry's case, why leave a team where he's first choice and that's on the brink (god willing) of promotion to go sit on another teams bench....?
He is good enough to play higher but for the time being he's got to be far better off letting it happen in a team where he's established than pushing it.
I think this is all about seeing what's out there, then using it to get a better deal, and you can't blame him for that can you....
Of course there could well be that little clause in there where if we don't get promotion a certain sum will trigger his release.....

With over three weeks still remaining of the early bird offer, which runs until the 30th June, the Club can confirm that nearly three times the number of season tickets have been purchased compared to the figures of a similar period last year.

Hmmm..... So does that mean that at this time last year we'd only sold 2,300 season tickets? Or does it mean that we've sold 3 times as many in the days since they went on sale this year, as we did on those same days of the calendar last year? If it's the latter, it's just because they went on sale earlier last year so the days in question didn't include those who purchased as soon as they went on sale.

Bit of an opaque statistic...

The bit where he says"Boss Nigel Clough has strengthened his playing squad so don't delay purchase your season ticket today"made me chuckle, because as of today our squad is actually alot weaker than the end of last season,we have no where near strengthened yet.

Agreed. If - as seems likely - we don't bring Coady & Brayford back, that is two of our best players gone. The players we have brought in and are being linked with are not the same quality as those two.

I hope a couple of quality signings will be made - but it doesn't seem likely at the moment. All a bit disappointing - but after years supporting the Blades, not exactly surprising.

We're only just into June. Loans, in particular, wouldn't normally be sorted out yet. You can't really compare last season's loans with loan deals for this season which haven't been made yet.

Because most football fans are plastic. You didn't really need that explaining?

If I was doing my weekly shopping in Tesco and a stranger came up to me and shouted "You only buy asparagus in the summer! Why don't you buy it all year round, you plastic asparagus fan? You don't properly like asparagus, like I do!", I would think that they were quite mad.

Is there really a problem that some fans go when it suits them and miss out when it doesn't? I'm always touched by the genuine loyalty shown by a lot of football fans, but the ones that get angry about other supporters picking and choosing are no different from the crazy asparagus fan.

It's not a problem at all, and it certainly doesn't make me angry. But if you live a few miles away from the ground like Metal Blade (different to living at the other end of the country) and won't buy a season ticket because the football's not generally up to what you expect, then I'd personally suggest you're not best placed to demand that someone else stumps up millions before you justify stumping up your £300......which takes it back to where this started.

You certainly sound angry alco, in your rush to have a pop you seem to have forgot SUFC Handsworth (post #7) was the first to say he was holding back on a ST and no one at all on this thread has "demanded" that anyone pumps millions in. That is just a figment of your fertile imagination, really the only argument you have is about being the biggest blade in the world

My only "gripe" if you like, is at those who fit the mould I suggest ie - you, and perhaps Handsworth. But for certain you've previously stated that "I only live a few miles away but can't be arsed these days". I know loads of fans who attend only occasionally, and that's their choice. But they don't publicly piss and moan that although the club is losing millions, they aren't prepared to pump in £300 until someone else turns it around. That is the direct implication of your standpoint.

Dress it up as a "bigger blade" debate, if you like. I think it's fairly obvious that someone living down the road who, to cut a long story short, just isn't very interested in supporting their club, isn't really a very big Blade. Simples.............:)

But English asparagus only grows April to June and the imports can't touch it. :)

An Alco pop?

I think that may be a little harsh tbh. Whilst I totally agree that we need at least two or three more decent signings, the replacement of Hill with Butler and the signing of Basham, hopefully to replace Doyle, look like solid acquisitions to me. JCR and McCann will hopefully prove to be positive as well, so whilst I'm also disappointed at Brayford going back I don't think that its anywhere near as gloomy as most of the recent few years. NC is also committed to doing most of his business early to get them all training together in pre-season which is refreshingly sensible !!!
Lets just wait, hope and see what rabbits NC can pull from his hat, because I have more optimism this year than I have had for a LONG time.
This will indeed be the acid test of whether the Board ARE actually going to support NC as they keep promising and I think that will become clear over the next month !!
In Nigel I am beginning to trust ....... although I'm still sceptical about the Board

If we're judging the board by whether we get Coady and Brayford back then that seems hugely unfair to me. It's not simply within the gift of the board to decide where those two end up. Sure we can make good offers for either, but those offers can easily be beaten by Championship level outfits.

I'm just pleased we no longer have to sell players in every window. And as for recruitment, what we've done so far seems sensible, though a hint of showbiz would be lovely. :)

I'm not judging the Board on whether we get Coady & Brayford back - because as JD says that's not something they can guarantee. But I will judge the Board on the signings we make this summer. The good thing is we have acted early, but the disappointment is we have not really brought in the quality I was hoping for - it still feels like we go for the cheaper option. Hopefully the 4 we have signed so far will do well but we still need to bring in some proven quality.

Fair point ..... judging the Board on whether we get Brayford & Coady back wouldn't be fair, as long as we make every reasonable effort to do so if NC wants them both.

If not then we CAN judge the Board by whether they ACTUALLY give NC the support to bring in who he wants, because I think he seems to be quite realistic about the type of player that is needed and who he needs to get. A couple of good loans may be easier to get in compared to permanent signings as many players will not want to drop down to the 3rd Division permanently.
