Agree, good feature on us....enjoyed it.....thanks.
Still can’t get used to the high pitch women commentating though, it just doesn’t sound right.
Even John Motson mentioned a few months ago that in his opinion a lower voice tone sounds better for commentating.

It doesn’t sound better, it’s just what you’re used to hearing. Surprisingly patronising bollocks from Mr Motson.

I think it sounds better. I’m not interested in arguing why because I don’t know the answer. I think certain voices suit certain situations. I also think Russ Williams at TalkSport has too deep a voice for daytime radio, he sounds like an overnight DJ. I’ll still listen to both as I’m not that bothered, there’s more important things to get wound up about, but I’m not going to pretend I like her voice because I don’t.

Cool with the no arguing.
It would just end up with Michael Owen and Andy Townsend being thrown into any discussion about annoying/stupid/ignorant voices and there’s no logical defence against them.
If anyone would really prefer to listen to either of them than literally any other noise during a game, then there’s no way I could find middle ground anyway.

I agree 100% on the dullard Owen, but think that Andy Townsend actually knows his stuff so is way ahead of Savage, Mills and a few of the Talksport know-nowts.

Not sure if that’s correct.

How come every female news reader and female radio presenter has a much deeper than average voice. some sound like men, like that dark haired woman (think she’s called Tanya Arnold) on Look North. Also there’s no high pitched males speakers anywhere in that business. Alan Ball wouldn’t have stood a chance ha.
Assume it’s becomes lower tones are easier to understand and less grating on the ears compared to high pitches.

However as you said it might simply be because over the decades we’ve become used to listening to voices in a certain pitch range, so now we prefer it.

They’re pundits though, not commentators. Dull ones admittedly. As is Hargreaves. If the commentator for our game was Jacqui Oatley, I appreciate she’s done the hard yards, she was match reporter on Saturday afternoons for the BBC’s round the grounds and did a good job. I just don’t like her voice as a commentator.

Tanya has a voice like a bloke and prefers Rugby League. she's strangely attractive though :D

There may be something in this, it’s why I can’t stand Jonathan Pearce as a commentator.
Too shouty for no reason. Shout when a team’s scored if you have to but don’t start screaming like there’s a goal just because someone’a put a cross in.

When we went up in 06, she was interviewing outside Town Hall when we had our parade, she was very easy on the eye.

Ah, good old Andy Townsend, and his Wayne Rooneys and Messis and Ronaldos and Manchester Uniteds and Chelseas of this world. The need for a striker to head towards the goals, presumably both at the same time. The stating that a shot would have been goal of the season if the keeper hadn't saved it, or that it would have been a shot that nobody would have got near if it hadn't just careened off the programme seller in row ZZ's head.
Andy Townsend and Glenn Hoddle are a pair of twats, and come the Glorious Revolution both of the fuckers are going up against the wall in very short order.

Who do I send the invoice for my Premier League image rights to?
