I strongly suspect Gannon, who was our penalty taker at the time, took that under Bassett’s orders.

3 years before Peter Beagrie had let Richard Cadette take one when we were 4-1 up v Ipswich and Cadette had scored twice. He missed, and Bassett was furious, saying goal difference was a factor in our relegation battle and Beagrie should have taken it. No doubt Bassett got his way here, much good it did him.

I take it you are not old enough to remember the Cup Replay against Arsenal in February 1959 when most people in the ground only found out what was happening at the other end by rumours going round the ground. We only found out that way that the Arsenal keeper had gone off injured (no subs then), and only really believed it after half-time, when we could with our own eyes see that it was the full-back in goal. Now that was proper fog...

Fast approaching 30 yrs ago, and that video still seems fresh to me.

I bet there's yoof on here that look at that video and it may have been filmed in black and white.

I can still remember the unbearable tension of that forest game and the explosion of sheer joy at the final whistle.

Back to the 17th Nov 1991, well the 18th Nov. Catching the 7:30am approx to Liverpool on the 18th, in Blades shirt, armed with plenty of papers to read. Quite a few Blades on the station/train. Don't recall seeing any fans of the previous says opposition, which was disappointing.

Possibly the finest moment of real blades glory I had seen, up to that time - especially Warhurst and Sheridan doing that tackle on each other - The entire standing corner of the Kop seemed to move down about 4 rows as one......
It really was a great time.
Little did we know that just three months later it would get even better.......
