Long. Number 1 keeper?

The next 8 games are testing - if we are still around the top 3 after them, he will have done a good job and the shirt is his.

Personally, I think he has all the attributes to be a top class keeper.

He will make some mistakes at some point but I don't believe there is a blame culture at the Lane and as long as his confidence doesn't take a knock, I can't see him being ousted

When I see the kid come of his line with confidence catch a crossed ball under pressure on a regular basis that is when we will know we have a serious keeper.

I have yet to witness this so we shouldn't get too excited.

Like David De Gea? :)

I admit Long has done well since he came in but how many keeper for us since Alan Kelly has dominated his area

All I want to see is how he deals with crosses when under pressure because if he fails he will get crucified.

I don't think he will get crucified because he has got off to a good start with the fans, he is only a youngster so is getting a period of grace, and i don't think he will get crucified because we are generally patient when it comes to keepers, and i can remember the best three keepers i've seen us have, Kelly, Tracey and Kenny all drop howlers from time to time.

We are in a good position of having two decent keepers ,how the hell that clown last season kept them out is anyones business but for me is the main reason we are in this division.

I suspect the thinking was that he earns so much money, he can't possibly be that bad...

If he works on his kicking a bit more he has the potential to be a top keeper.

Although as he doesn't get great height from his kicks off the floor at least we wouldn't have to worry about him skying it!

I never thought that Steve Simonsen was a bad keeper, but he was a confidence keeper. When things went well, he looked like an excellent keeper, but when things didn't go well, then his confidence suffered and from time to time he was a liability.

Leave the lad in for as long as possible IMO. Of course he's going to make mistakes along the way, but, with good man management it's the only way he'll learn. Playing consecutive games breeds confidence.

I think he was the main reason we dropped as many points as we did last season. The money he was getting paid should have covered the confidence issues. Not a bad shot stopper most of the time but crosses/corners he was a right flapper.

George seems to have been working on his kicking the past couple of weeks, there is a slight improvement.

He got stick from some after his last temporary spell in the first team.

Some of the critic was far too harsh and some even wrote him off at that stage.

Should the board be praised for not releasing funds for a new goalkeeper following Howard's injury?

In my mind absolutely. The same should apply for every position to be honest; we've got cover across the park but it's only when we get three or four out that we should be looking for loans.
