I believe that Chris Wilder if allowed and supported could take this club to a permanent fixture in the Prem with some silverware.
We are looking well down the road but he has the attributes to do this.
But at some point (hopefully having remained with us) he will retire. My worry is who then replaces him? Hopefully we are not talking for a long time but Alex Ferguson retired eventually, and despite the money, size of club and expectation there, they have lost what they had under him.
However if you look at Liverpool under Shankly they were still very successful even after he retired. This was because of the boot room where Shankly created two natural successors. Chris Wilder already has a kind of boot room (a bit posher at Shirecliffe) with Bettis, Mitchel and Knill.
I'm of the opinion that this could be widened further with a couple of younger coaches who could be identified by Chris Wilder as potential successors. These coaches could have the inside track and be part of future planning and their ideas utilised.
This is hopefully a while off but we more than anyone know what the difference between what a completely shit manager and a Wilder brings. Management can be taught to the right candidates.
